Exploring Disney: Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain

Walt Disney has mastered the art of entertaining guests as they stand in line (or queue if you prefer). Yes, you are in line, so why not have something to do rather than standing there waiting? Expedition Everest is a great example of how to entertain guests  while immersing them into the story line during the wait.

Entering the stone structure you slowly make your way into a quaint general store, past a temple and through a museum with relics and artifacts from previous explorers. There is the story of the Yeti, the snow monster that many believe inhabit the Himalayas. I don’t know about you but just being there, made me feel cold, like I imagine it would be in India! OK, maybe it was nerves!

When you arrive at the loading area, you will board a weather beaten train, which slowly ascends across rolling hills, making its way up a steep incline and through a stone tunnel. Looking down, you can see the green forest below, making you forget where you are actually heading! Heading up the mountain, be sure to be on the lookout for the dreaded Yeti!

This ride is unique in that once you reach the top, the ride takes you backward spiraling down to the bottom and it is also in the dark. Just when you aren’t sure you can take anymore, you reach the bottom of the mountain.

This is a must do for roller-coaster and thrill seeker fans. The train does have a large pocket in front you of on the ride so you can stash your bags, but I found this ride to be a little rough without any padding within your seat. Keep in mind, I am not a roller-coaster fan so my I am a little biased! Will I ride it again? Maybe not, but I will definitely get in line just to see everything in the queue before loading the train!

Be sure and see the cast members taking pictures to the left as you exit the gift shop after your adventure!

Are you a roller-coaster or thrill seeker? Is Expedition Everest on your list of Must-Do’s?

Debbie and her husband live in Chattanooga, TN. They both are huge Disney fans and try to visit the most Magical Place on Earth at least once a year, if possible. They are enjoying taking each of their now 10 grandchildren and hope to also take their great granddaughter in the near future. One of their favorite trips has been visiting Disney with adults only, including one trip when their son proposed to his girlfriend. Each trip begins with the planning, which can take up to a year, beginning with how to get the grandkids excited about their upcoming trip. They have surprised some of them the day before they left, while the latest one had “presents” every 10 days starting at 90 days all leading up to an exciting trip with her parents along also. Their philosophy on Disney Trips? “Each trip is completely different, like visiting Walt Disney World for the first time.” They both enjoy all that Disney has to offer, but enjoy Animal Kingdom and EPCOT the most. It is their goal that everyone who visits Walt Disney World has a magical trip with lots of memories to last a life time.
