When you’re looking for a vacation destination that has fun activities for all ages, the Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, areas may be the perfect place for you and your family. Located in eastern Tennessee, and set against the beautiful backdrop of the Smoky Mountains, this area is the home to thrilling outdoor experiences and natural wonders, country music, awesome dining, and of course the famous Dollywood, country singer Dolly Parton’s Appalachian-themed park. You name it and you’ll probably find it in Pigeon Forge and Sevierville.

Less than 10 miles apart, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville both offer a wide range of things to do in the area. While less known than its neighbor Pigeon Forge, Sevierville is close to all the local attractions —just without all the crowds. You can easily enjoy the many fun activities and tourist attractions in the area, and still get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life while staying in a mountain cabin. And of course, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is nearby as well, where you can enjoy activities like fishing and hiking along the forest trails. And while Pigeon Forge may be the home of Dollywood, it’s Sevierville that is, in fact, the hometown of Dolly Parton.

If on the other hand you want to be in the center of all the action, Pigeon Forge is your choice. Here will you find Dolly Parton’s Dollywood (“the only theme park with southern charm”), consisting of rides, an adjoining water park and a museum of her costumes and memorabilia. The park also features live entertainment showcasing artists performing country, southern gospel, classic rock ‘n’ roll and Appalachian music, as well as local craftsmen demonstrating things like glass blowing, all highlighting rich heritage and artistry of the Smokies. Pigeon Forge has a lot to offer beyond Dollywood too, with music venues like the Smoky Mountain Opry, dinner theaters such as Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede, and of course shopping and dining.

But what else will you find in the area?

If you want more theme-park fun beyond Dollywood -especially the kind that gets you wet – then check out one of the several water parks in the area. With a variety of water slides, lazy rivers, and other wet-and-wild activities, there’s plenty of opportunity to cool off in a fun way!

For flight enthusiasts, consider visiting the Tennessee Museum of Aviation where you’ll find a variety of vintage aircraft, including 2 rare P-47 Thunderbolts.

Those who are interested in geology (or just really love caverns) will be interested to know that Tennessee boasts more caves than any other state in the nation, and you can experience one of the best at the Forbidden Caverns. Take a guided tour past glistening rock formations, crystal clear grottos, and natural rock chimneys for a fascinating natural adventure.

Love animals? Then you’ll want to be sure to meet some truly special animals at the Smoky Mountain Deer Farm and Exotic Petting Zoo. Kids and adults alike will enjoy some one-on-one time with among other animals, pot-bellied pigs, kangaroos, Rocky Mountain elk, and miniature horses. Time your visit during the months of May, June, and July and you just may even see the new baby animals!

And for the grown ups, the area features plenty of great dining, but you won’t want to leave until you’ve had the chance to sample some of the area’s signature moonshine! At Tennessee Legends Distillery, adults can enjoy free tastings of authentic Appalachian white whiskey. The distillery’s moonshine comes in a variety of fun flavors, including apple pie, blackberry, coffee, and grape.

When you’re looking for a fun and unique vacation, in a beautiful area, with literally something for everyone, Sevierville and Pigeon Forge should be on your list. With so much to see and do, your family is sure to have a vacation that will provide memories for a lifetime!
