Relaxation and Disney Fun by the Pool!

Relax…at Disney World? That’s an oxymoron, right? When friends and family ask for my advice when planning their vacations, I always put rest days at the top of my list of recommendations. It’s hard to resist the urge to go, go, go every day but if you are traveling with children, it’s important for them have some down time, physically and mentally. Disney World can be very exciting and overstimulating. Rest days are nice for the caregivers as well. Aside from taking some time to rejuvenate, I have to say that when we talk about our favorite memories from past trips, spending time at the pool is something my kids always bring up.

What kid doesn’t love to swim? And Disney resorts just happen to have top-notch pools across Disney property, regardless of whether you are staying at a Value resort or a Deluxe villa. From zero-entry pools and water slides to fun, over-the-top theming, there is something for everyone. My husband and I have always found ourselves particularly fond of the nearby food and adult beverages found at each resort’s main pool area.

On our relaxing days, I usually do a load or two of laundry. That might not sound relaxing to you, but it helps us to pack less and have less dirty clothing to deal with when we get home, so it’s a win-win. Laundry facilities are located close to the main pool at each resort as well.

And last but not least, the entertainment provided for FREE at the pool, is second to none. There are almost constant activities going on from interactive games to movies by the pool at night, complete with free popcorn. My kids had an absolute blast meeting new friends, roasting marshmallows, playing trivia games, and joining in the dance parties. If you thought spending a day at your resort was a waste of a vacation day, think again!

Candice was raised in east Tennessee. While in college, her best friend dragged her to a Walt Disney World College Program recruiting session at the University of Tennessee and the rest is Disney history. In the Fall of 1999, Candice became a quick service food hostess for Sunset Ranch Market and Fantasmic at Disney-MGM Studios – or what is now known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While soaking up her time as a cast member, she met Ryan, a neighbor and a fellow college programmer who worked as a custodial host at Epcot. Four years later, Candice moved to the Midwest and married that boy from across the hall. They now live in Greenwood, Indiana with their two little boys. The Disney-loving foursome took their first family trip to The Happiest Place on Earth in 2013 and Candice is eagerly planning their return. Candice also works full-time at a community mental health center and enjoys taking photographs and blogging at Mommy in the Midwest.
