Let the Good Times Roll at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter

One of my favorite moderate hotels at Walt Disney World is Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter. The smallest of the moderates, this resort, as the name implies, is themed like the French Quarter of New Orleans with lots of colorful Mardi Gras-style touches. French Quarter is also about a 10 minute walk (or a short boat ride) from its sister resort, Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside.

Like Riverside, French Quarter offers a variety of fun activities on the resort such as horse-drawn carriage rides and bike rentals to enjoy the gorgeous grounds of the resort. There are also campfires activities, fishing (at Riverside), and movies under the stars, weather permitting.

The resort’s main pool, Doubloon Lagoon, features a Mardi Gras-float style water slide in the shape of a massive sea serpent. Guests will also find a whirlpool spa, kids splash play area, and the Mardi Grogs pool bar. Guests at French Quarter may also visit Ol’ Man Island, the main pool at neighboring Riverside.

Most rooms at French Quarter can sleep up to 4 adults and have a few colorful touches to fit in with the resort’s theme. Guests can choose from standard, garden, pool, or river view. Unlike several other moderate resorts, French Quarter does not have rooms that can sleep 5, although connecting room options are available.

Guests can grab Cajun and Creole-inspired dishes, as well as other standard favorites, at the quick-service Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. There’s also drinks, appetizers, and live music to be had at Scat Cat’s Club. Guests at French Quarter can also visit the table-service Boatwright’s at Riverside, or any of the other dining locations at the nearby resort.

Port Orleans French Quarter has a single bus stop offering service to the theme parks and Disney Springs, and there is also boat service to Disney Springs from the resort’s river dock.

Because this resort is fairly small, unlike the other moderates, it “feels” intimate and because of this many feel that it has more of a “deluxe resort” vibe to it than some of the larger moderate resorts. If this sounds like what you are looking for – especially at a great price – I highly recommend Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort!
