Exploring Disney: Soarin’ Around the World

Have you ever wished you could just fly around the world and see the major sites and landmarks without the nuisance of catching a flight (and the cost)? Well now you can through the wonders of technology and a giant movie screen. Strap yourself into a “hang-glider” and hang on as you soar around the world!

See castles in the Alps, watch huge polar bears enjoy the icy waters, and glide past the Sydney Opera House and harbor in Australia – be on the lookout for P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney (which by the way doesn’t exist, but it is fun to look for!).

On your flight, you’ll also get to see the Great Pyramids of Egypt and the Taj Mahal in India, you’ll soar above Fiji and the incredible Ignazu Falls in Argentina. Then enjoy the lights of the Eiffel Tower in Paris at night. You’ll discover a few other surprises along the way, so be sure to keep your eyes open and enjoy the smells of the world.

Soarin’ Around the World is for guests 40” or taller. While you are lifted up into the air at the beginning of this attraction, after that you don’t really move, so there is no motion and no drops – although your view is very realistic so you may feel like you’re moving – and dropping – as you enjoy the amazing scenery. If the motion feels too realistic, closing your eyes for just a second will quickly help with that.

There are 3 levels of seating, so if heights are a concern you can request the lowest level – which is only about 3’ off the ground. For those wearing slip on shoes or sandals, you will be asked to take them off for the ride so that they don’t fall off, but don’t worry, your trusty hang-glider will return you to exactly the same spot! There is a handy storage area below your seat for those back-packs and other bags.

Soarin’ is a super popular ride and is a Tier One Fast-Pass attraction at Epcot, so be sure and book when your reservation window opens if this is a priority for you. Otherwise, you can go directly to this ride at rope drop – I’ve done this in the past and didn’t find the queue to be very long at that time of the day, but of course, depending on when you visit, your mileage may vary.

Soarin’ to tower: you’re now cleared for takeoff. Enjoy your flight!

Find out how the FREE services of a Disney World travel agent can make planning your Disney vacation simple and STRESS FREE!

Debbie and her husband live in Chattanooga, TN. They both are huge Disney fans and try to visit the most Magical Place on Earth at least once a year, if possible. They are enjoying taking each of their now 10 grandchildren and hope to also take their great granddaughter in the near future. One of their favorite trips has been visiting Disney with adults only, including one trip when their son proposed to his girlfriend. Each trip begins with the planning, which can take up to a year, beginning with how to get the grandkids excited about their upcoming trip. They have surprised some of them the day before they left, while the latest one had “presents” every 10 days starting at 90 days all leading up to an exciting trip with her parents along also. Their philosophy on Disney Trips? “Each trip is completely different, like visiting Walt Disney World for the first time.” They both enjoy all that Disney has to offer, but enjoy Animal Kingdom and EPCOT the most. It is their goal that everyone who visits Walt Disney World has a magical trip with lots of memories to last a life time.
