While I had heard so much about Avatar Flight of Passage and how incredible of a ride it was, before riding it the first time I was still a little apprehensive about what to expect. But if my 8 year old granddaughter was riding, I couldn’t say no, could I? And I have to say that afterwards, I was SO surprised, not only by the incredible queue and the details as you walked through, but the ride itself lived up to the hype. I honestly thought I was transporting to the land of Pandora and beginning my journey to becoming a Na’vi hunter.
As you near the end of the queue and prepare to ride, you are paired with your own mountain banshee in order to soar over Pandora’s mountain landscape. The bonding with your banshee occurs as you are scanned – scanned with Disney Magic that matches you up genetically with the right banshee. You are then given 3-D magic glasses that will allow you to experience the trip in a totally realistic and thrilling way.
Guests will mount their banshee, which is similar to getting on a motorcycle, with supports that close in on your legs and back. Most people don’t have a problem with this but if you are more of plus-plus size, you can check outside on the model they have for you to try. My husband is close to 300 lbs. and almost 6’ and didn’t have an issue.
The minimum height for Flight of Passage is 44” and this ride is not recommended for pregnant women or those with back or motion issues. While I can get motion sick at time, especially with drops, I found that closing my eyes or looking out in the distance at the sky remedied this.

Over all this is one the best rides at Walt Disney World, as the long lines to experience it indicate – but it is well worth your time. It was incredibly realistic and feeling the banshee breathing between my legs made the experience even more so!
I highly recommend Flight of Passage but if you are still apprehensive about it, go at least for the queue, as the details throughout are amazing. Then just let the cast member know before pairing with a banshee and you will be able to exit.

Debbie and her husband live in Chattanooga, TN. They both are huge Disney fans and try to visit the most Magical Place on Earth at least once a year, if possible. They are enjoying taking each of their now 10 grandchildren and hope to also take their great granddaughter in the near future. One of their favorite trips has been visiting Disney with adults only, including one trip when their son proposed to his girlfriend. Each trip begins with the planning, which can take up to a year, beginning with how to get the grandkids excited about their upcoming trip. They have surprised some of them the day before they left, while the latest one had “presents” every 10 days starting at 90 days all leading up to an exciting trip with her parents along also. Their philosophy on Disney Trips? “Each trip is completely different, like visiting Walt Disney World for the first time.” They both enjoy all that Disney has to offer, but enjoy Animal Kingdom and EPCOT the most. It is their goal that everyone who visits Walt Disney World has a magical trip with lots of memories to last a life time.
