Virtual Travel Day: Under the Sea at the Georgia Aquarium

As we continue virtually traveling this week, I thought it would be great to check out a destination that is fun for all ages, whether in person or virtually: the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. While there are any number of super cool aquariums all over the US, what I especially love about the Georgia Aquarium is all of the at-home learning opportunities they have on their website.

Between the fascinating webcams, daily and weekly livestreaming events, regular animal “updates”, and tons of great lesson plans and activities, you’ll find all kinds of ways to have a blast virtually visiting with some of your favorite sea creatures!

Want to be mesmerized by jellyfish, enjoy playful sea otters, or watch beluga whales? Check out the various webcams.  If you’re looking for more “in depth” (see what I did there lol?) learning, you can watch any number of Deep Sea Learning Videos, which also include a study guide that is perfect for your little marine biologists-to-be.

You can even learn how to train your dolphin (dolphin not included). Teachers – and parent/teachers – there are lesson plans too, for whatever age you’re looking for.

I also loved the fun activities for kids: there are activity sheets, coloring pages, and even the chance for kids to submit their under-the-sea artwork to the Aquarium’s online gallery!

Most of all though, I just loved looking at the pictures of all of the animals…..

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to visit! Not only is the Georgia Aquarium considered to be one of the top aquariums in the US, it is also the largest in the country at an astounding 10 million gallons. General admission includes access to the aquarium’s seven galleries with over 500 species of sea animals from around the world, and several specialty experiences can make your trip extra memorable.

Until you can visit in person, be sure to check out all that the Georgia Aquarium offers online for a virtual vacation.
