Exploring Disney: Farm Fun on Living with the Land

Living with the Land in Epcot is probably one of the most relaxing and soothing rides in all of Walt Disney World – and it’s also one of the most interesting. Located in The Land pavilion, this ride gives the rider a glimpse of how things are grown – including some very unique ways to grow crops – along with how the weather and various terrains can affect the crops and food that are produced on this great land of ours.

Walt Disney horticulturalists use the most modern technology to create very innovative growing techniques to produce high-yield crops to help feed not only this growing planet but also supply fresh produce and seafood for several locations in Walt Disney World. You can enjoy some of this awesome food in Sunshine Seasons and the Garden Grill Restaurant, both located in The Land.

The latest agricultural technology is truly fascinating and it’s fun to see some of the growing techniques where hydroponics are used and plants are grown without soil but rather using just the nutrients they require.

Along your ride, you will see a multitude of food such as lettuce, squash, eggplant, tomatoes, bananas, herbs, cucumbers and many other very recognizable fruits and vegetables. Kids will especially enjoy seeing food items they recognize – even though they may be in a different shape than they are used to seeing. You will also get a glimpse of hybrid striped bass, tilapia, catfish and freshwater shrimp, all thriving in tanks on each side of your boat.

This ride is for all ages and heights. It is slow moving and very informative even for the non-gardener.

Keep your eyes open along the way because the Disney horticulturists must have Mickey running through their veins – you will find “hidden” Mickeys all along your trip!

Debbie and her husband live in Chattanooga, TN. They both are huge Disney fans and try to visit the most Magical Place on Earth at least once a year, if possible. They are enjoying taking each of their now 10 grandchildren and hope to also take their great granddaughter in the near future. One of their favorite trips has been visiting Disney with adults only, including one trip when their son proposed to his girlfriend. Each trip begins with the planning, which can take up to a year, beginning with how to get the grandkids excited about their upcoming trip. They have surprised some of them the day before they left, while the latest one had “presents” every 10 days starting at 90 days all leading up to an exciting trip with her parents along also. Their philosophy on Disney Trips? “Each trip is completely different, like visiting Walt Disney World for the first time.” They both enjoy all that Disney has to offer, but enjoy Animal Kingdom and EPCOT the most. It is their goal that everyone who visits Walt Disney World has a magical trip with lots of memories to last a life time.
