Exploring Disney: Dumbo the Flying Elephant

I rode this Magic Kingdom classic for the first time just a few years ago. Not sure why I never rode it before, but on this particular trip we had our 5 year old granddaughter with us who was very excited to ride Dumbo, and as we both found out, it was a lot of fun!

Previously, one of the things that always concerned me about Dumbo was the never ending line in the queue due to this being a stop ‘n load – meaning that the ride must completely stop and all guests must exit before it can be loaded with the next group of guests. This can definitely add to the wait time as opposed to those attractions that are continuous load styles. That all changed when Disney added a second ride, which makes the lines move much faster. And then they added a kids play area where families can hang out while waiting to ride, which has become so popular many children don’t want to leave there to actually ride when it’s their turn!

Dumbo is a ride that can hold up to 2 guests per “elephant” vehicle. Each vehicle can rise up or down and is controlled by one of the guests riding. You can go as high – or low – as you (or the person in control) wants. And what makes this perfect for little ones is that there is no height limit, making it fun for all ages. (Just be advised that guests in wheelchairs must be able to transfer.)

Dumbo is a slow moving ride, and while you go in a big circle, it truly is tame enough for even the littlest of guests!

Debbie and her husband live in Chattanooga, TN. They both are huge Disney fans and try to visit the most Magical Place on Earth at least once a year, if possible. They are enjoying taking each of their now 10 grandchildren and hope to also take their great granddaughter in the near future. One of their favorite trips has been visiting Disney with adults only, including one trip when their son proposed to his girlfriend. Each trip begins with the planning, which can take up to a year, beginning with how to get the grandkids excited about their upcoming trip. They have surprised some of them the day before they left, while the latest one had “presents” every 10 days starting at 90 days all leading up to an exciting trip with her parents along also. Their philosophy on Disney Trips? “Each trip is completely different, like visiting Walt Disney World for the first time.” They both enjoy all that Disney has to offer, but enjoy Animal Kingdom and EPCOT the most. It is their goal that everyone who visits Walt Disney World has a magical trip with lots of memories to last a life time.
