Special Dining Needs at Disney: No Worries for Quick Service Meals

It gets hot and busy but that’s the perfect time to get a cool snack, or a cold drink and find a little shade to people watch from. When we plan our Disney vacations, advanced dining reservations are a must, especially when food allergies are involved. We usually make reservations for the bigger meals, either breakfast or dinner.   That doesn’t mean that we don’t get hungry during the day though! You don’t need reservations to be able to eat at the park: from the quick service spots to the vendor carts there are plenty of allergy friendly options.

Disney has continually been making quick service dining easier for those with food allergies. On their snack carts they now post what snacks are safe for different allergies right on the signs. Of course you won’t have to wait to talk to someone, you can take a look at the sign and see what your options are. Other carts, like the popsicle stands, will let you look at the ingredients on the snack if you’re unsure. Most stands are selling fruit now as well, for a healthier option.

At the quick service locations you can ask to speak with a chef or manager about your food allergy. They have binders at the registers that list all the ingredients used in the different meals. And of course, there are a number of allergy friendly menus at many dining locations.

If you’re wondering what some of my personal favorites are I’d be more then happy to share. There is the always-classic Mickey ice cream bar, it is gluten free but not lactose free. I can always go for a Dole whip as well, which you can get either in Magic Kingdom in Adventureland right over the bridge, or at the Polynesian quick service location. I’m always happy to eat some gluten free chicken fingers and fries. You can find them almost anywhere.

There are tons of gluten free options no matter where you dine at Walt Disney World, so be sure to try them all. I’m working my way through them right along with you!

Jess was born and raised on Long Island, New York but once college began so did her adventures. She’s lived in Florida, Wisconsin, and now South Carolina. Her family is part of the Disney Vacation Club and has been visiting since she was a little girl, and continuously goes every year. Besides being a big Disney fan she has also been a Disney Cast Member working in Magic Kingdom, and she counts it as one of the most magical experiences. She worked with everyone’s favorite elephant Dumbo, Cinderella’s Carousel, and Mickey’s Philharmagic. Jess has also visited Disneyland, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, and gone on two Disney Cruises. She has so many great memories from Disney besides running half marathons and 5ks, birthday parties, and family reunions. If asked where she would want to go it is almost always Disney, and when asked why, it is almost always because she can eat awesome gluten free food! And it doesn’t hurt that there is always faith, trust, and pixie dust with magic in the air!
