Romantic Italy

It’s February, the month of love, and nothing says “love” like travel (at least in my house).

Romance travel is hugely popular with many folks, whether it’s planning a honeymoon, celebrating a special anniversary, or even just spending time with that someone special, reconnecting in a way that you can’t do with all the stress and worries of daily life.

So with all that in mind – and because it’s Valentine’s Day/month – romantic travel is what we are focusing on this month, and we are beginning in one of the most romantic places in the world (and home to many of the top bucket list destinations on just about any list) – Italy!

It’s no wonder that Italy is a top romantic destination for so many. Consider the world-class art of Florence, the alluring romance of Venice, the quiet serenity of Assisi, the historical fascination of Pompeii, the pure indulgence of Capri, the vine-clad Tuscan hills famous for its signature Chianti wine, the citrus-scented town of Sorrento renowned for its locally produced Limoncello liqueur – and of course, Rome – there is something for everyone in Italy!

Let’s take a quick tour of some of the most popular places in Bella Italia.

Lake Como – If you’re looking for a place of natural and man-made beauty, with palatial villas, rose-laden rooftops, hanging wisteria and bougainvillea, lanterns casting a glow over lakeshore restaurants, and majestic Alpine vistas, then Lake Como is for you. Picturesque and truly lovely, it’s hard to find a more romantic spot than beautiful Lake Como.

Venice – Venice is a city unlike any other. No matter how often you’ve seen it in photos and films, the real thing is more dreamlike than you could imagine. With canals where streets should be, water shimmers everywhere. And truly, floating on a gondola with your love is quintessentially romantic.

Tuscany – Picture Tuscany, and your mind is filled with images of rolling hills, olive groves, and cypress trees. The many pleasures of Tuscany include tasting wine in Chianti and simply relaxing in the piazzas of medieval towns. Between the combination of great art, sumptuous countryside, and memorable food and wine, enchanting Tuscany is simply unforgettable.

Florence – This center of the Renaissance, filled with magnificent palaces and home to some of the most famous works of art in the world, is a history and art-lover’s dream – as well as a city of subtle yet inspiring beauty. Plan to take in a breathtaking sunrise or sunset with your love for a truly memorable romantic moment.

Amalfi Coast – One of the most gorgeous places on Earth, this corner of Italy is home to some of the most scenic spots in the world: Positano; Amalfi; Ravello; and ancient Paestum. The Amalfi coast draws visitors from all over the world – including many honeymooners.

Rome – No other city on earth evokes its past as strongly as Italy’s capital. For over 2,500 years, emperors, popes, artists, and common citizens have left their mark here. Whether you’re interested in seeing archaeological remains from ancient Rome, art-filled churches, the treasures of Vatican City or simply want to enjoy sitting at a local café, Rome and romance go hand in hand.

There’s no question that Italy inspires the romance in all of us. Is it time for you to explore this beautiful country?
