Planning the Perfect Romantic Anniversary Vacation

It’s February, and with Valentine’s Day coming up soon, there’s no better way to celebrate a romantic occasion – such as your anniversary – than on a romantic vacation. Many couples find that an anniversary vacation is the perfect time to visit some of those bucket list destinations that they’ve always dreamed about. So, what do you need to think about to make this vacation dream a reality?

While a vacation is the perfect way to celebrate with your love, planning is key to make sure that your trip is all that you’re dreaming of. Here are a few things you’ll want to think about as you get started.

Where Do You Want to Go?  Choose a place that speaks to what you as a couple enjoy. If you hate the sand, don’t plan a Caribbean beach vacation. Likewise, if you’re not the rugged outdoorsy type, spending time at a mountain retreat may not be the best option for you. Be honest about what you do and do not enjoy – this is your anniversary, and you don’t want to spend it having a miserable time.

When Do You Want to Travel? When is the best time for you to visit your dream destination? While generally when school is in session will yield the lowest prices and smallest crowds, you’ll want to know what is best specifically for your location. Things like weather and special events will play into the best time for you to visit so you can plan accordingly.

What Will be Included? What kinds of resorts are available at your destination – and what is (or is not) included? All resorts are not equal and cheapest is not always best. Choose wisely here to make sure you’re not only getting a great price but also great value.

Will You Need a Passport? If you’re traveling internationally, check the expiration on your passport, as many locations will require the expiration date to be at least 6 months after your trip. If you need a new one, apply early as turnaround time may still be affected due to the pandemic. And while you’re at it, be sure to note if you’ll need a visa or if there are any other requirements for your location such as specific vaccinations.

What Else Do You Need to Think About? Will you be doing anything special on your vacation – as in, anything special that may require advance reservations? Things like tours, special experiences and excursions, spa treatments, and even dining all may require reservations in advance so be sure to check that out well before you depart.

What about transportation? How will you get to your resort or hotel from the airport? How will you get back to the airport at the end of your trip? Will you need transportation to visit different places during your trip?

What about gratuities? What do you need – and not need – to pack? What if you have questions or run into problems while on your trip?

And what about COVID requirements? This is a constantly changing situation, and each country has different requirements. Likewise, there are requirements for returning to the U.S. (and possibly if you are returning home to a different country). Do you need to be vaccinated? Boosted? Quarantine? Tested?

There’s actually quite a bit to keep track of, and a good number of details that can (and do) regularly change. It can be a bit stressful trying to make sure that nothing important “falls between the cracks” of this dream vacation that is so important to you. Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about it and don’t have to plan it alone! Having the experience of a travel professional who specializes in your destination, knows what you can expect, and is there to help you with any/all questions or problems you have, is truly the best way to have the anniversary trip of your dreams.
