Five More Tips for Saving Money on Your Disney Vacation

Last week we shared a few tips for saving money on your Disney vacation. This week, we have more tips and to start, let’s chat about souvenirs. Because let’s face it, not too many people can go to Walt Disney World and not buy something to remember their favorite place. So here are a few ideas to help save money on something that could easily get out of hand, along with a couple of other tips to help your wallet on your Disney vacation.

Pins: Not only are these relatively inexpensive compared to other items, but they are small to pack to take home and when you are bored with one – trade it! Double the fun! You never know what hidden treasure you will find when trading with cast members!

Pressed Pennies: This is one item that you truly do save money on. Just collect your shiny pennies and quarters before you leave home and then use them on your vacation to get different designs from the locations in the parks, hotels, Disney Springs! Just keep your eyes open – pressed pennies will be everywhere!

Pictures: Why not take a photo in each area of the park or each country! This is a great way to really recap your adventures. Adapt your pose to your location! This becomes a real journal of your travels and is a super fun way to share the memories in the future. (Bonus: Plan photos with the kids in the same place on multiple trips to see how they’ve grown and changed over the years!)

Now to a couple of other ideas that aren’t souvenir-related but can be a tremendous savings for your trip!

Breakfast: Did you know the food courts in the resorts have toasters and microwaves for your use? Why not pack some oatmeal packs along with a bowl for a hardy breakfast! Or look in the pastry area of the food court – I got some bread to make toast and peanut butter for less than $1 which was the perfect to start the day. Or better yet, if you drove – bring your favorite bread, pop tarts or other things you can easily heat up in the food court! (Bonus: if you are staying in a deluxe villa, you will have access to your own toaster and microwave, and if you’re in a family suite you’ll have a microwave – so no need to leave the room!)

Ponchos: You know how it rains almost everyday in Florida? Stop by your local $1 or discount store for inexpensive ponchos to throw in your park bag each day. They may not last more than 1-2 days, but will still be far less expensive than purchasing then in the parks. (Unless you really want an actual Disney poncho as a souvenir.)

Debbie and her husband live in Chattanooga, TN. They both are huge Disney fans and try to visit the most Magical Place on Earth at least once a year, if possible. They are enjoying taking each of their now 10 grandchildren and hope to also take their great granddaughter in the near future. One of their favorite trips has been visiting Disney with adults only, including one trip when their son proposed to his girlfriend. Each trip begins with the planning, which can take up to a year, beginning with how to get the grandkids excited about their upcoming trip. They have surprised some of them the day before they left, while the latest one had “presents” every 10 days starting at 90 days all leading up to an exciting trip with her parents along also. Their philosophy on Disney Trips? “Each trip is completely different, like visiting Walt Disney World for the first time.” They both enjoy all that Disney has to offer, but enjoy Animal Kingdom and EPCOT the most. It is their goal that everyone who visits Walt Disney World has a magical trip with lots of memories to last a life time.
