Exploring Disney: The “Art” of the Bathrooms

Let’s face it. If there is one place that you and your family will definitely visit on your Walt Disney World vacation, it’s the restroom – or to be precise, the restrooms. So while you’ll probably spend as little time there as possible, you also should take a few minutes to check out the design and details when you do stop by. Because the Disney Imagineers – being the creative geniuses that they are – spent as much time on the detail of the bathrooms as they did every other place in the parks and resorts. So you can absolutely expect each bathroom to be unique, and to reflect the “land” or theme where it is located.

Here are a few of our favorites!

Magic Kingdom – Adventureland/Frontierland: One of the most interesting things about this bathroom is that it connects Adventureland and Frontierland – and the décor easily reflects both “themes”. (One of the most amusing things about this bathroom is that because of it’s location, it’s SO easy to get turned around when you leave! As I sat and waited for the rest of my party, I watched about a half-dozen people do exactly that! They’d look around and then with a sheepish look on their face realize they went the wrong way, turn around and pretend they WERE in the right spot! Award to this bathroom for successful decor AND entertainment.)

Hollywood Studios – Galaxy’s Edge: This newest bathroom will make you do a double-take to make sure you are still on earth and in Hollywood Studios! While I have never been in an outpost located in a world far, far away, I am sure that this would definitely be what it would look like. I found this bathroom to be so interesting, I went back in just for pictures!

Hollywood Studios – Toy Story Land: The colors, the shapes, and the not-so-subtle nod to toys (like dominoes) are even evident in the bathrooms in this “toy-sized” land. This bathroom makes even the “necessary” an interesting (and amusing) place to visit.

Epcot – World Showcase/America: This bathroom – tucked away around the side of the America pavilion – is perfectly designed with wallpaper and lights (there’s even a chandelier) that will make you certain that you’re in colonial America. Bonus points for it’s location: because it’s a bit out of the way, a lot of people don’t even know it’s there, making it generally one of the least busy bathrooms in Epcot.

Animal Kingdom – Asia: With each bathroom in Animal Kingdom being themed to the area, it’s tough to pick a favorite, but I think one of the most unique is in Asia. Just as you come off Kali River, you’ll find probably the busiest bathroom in all of Animal Kingdom – folks gotta dry off you know. So while you’re wringing the water out of your clothing, take a minute to check out the walls, the decor, and even the floor because all of it is designed to make you feel like you’re on an expedition in the Himalayas.

So, the next time you stop by a Disney bathroom – because you know you will – check out the incredible imagination of Disney’s designers. Who would have ever thought a bathroom could be so interesting?

Debbie and her husband live in Chattanooga, TN. They both are huge Disney fans and try to visit the most Magical Place on Earth at least once a year, if possible. They are enjoying taking each of their now 10 grandchildren and hope to also take their great granddaughter in the near future. One of their favorite trips has been visiting Disney with adults only, including one trip when their son proposed to his girlfriend. Each trip begins with the planning, which can take up to a year, beginning with how to get the grandkids excited about their upcoming trip. They have surprised some of them the day before they left, while the latest one had “presents” every 10 days starting at 90 days all leading up to an exciting trip with her parents along also. Their philosophy on Disney Trips? “Each trip is completely different, like visiting Walt Disney World for the first time.” They both enjoy all that Disney has to offer, but enjoy Animal Kingdom and EPCOT the most. It is their goal that everyone who visits Walt Disney World has a magical trip with lots of memories to last a life time.
