Thrifty Thursday: Voyage of the Little Mermaid

One of my favorite attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is The Voyage of the Little Mermaid. We used to enjoy this show as a family but now my macho big boys have outgrown it for more thrills. So, it has evolved into one of the special mother-daughter activities that Kristen and I share at the parks. This indoor show is Disney at its best!

This 17-minute show is presented every 20 minutes beginning at 9:45am. Located in Animation Courtyard, which is typically a high-traffic area, the crowds start to develop after the first or second showing. So, try to see the show before lunch as the crowds get bigger as the day goes on. VOLM does have Fast Pass service, but you will notice that, unlike most FP attractions that have 1-hour windows, the Voyage of the Little Mermaid has a 10 minute return window. Be sure to look at your FP ticket closely so you will not miss your return time. Read more

Best Use of My Disney Fast Pass: Part 4, EPCOT

Author’s Note: This 4-part series answers the question: when you are trying to make the most of your limited time at the parks, and the crowds are maddening, there may be times when you will have to choose which favorite ride you will get a fast pass for that day.  What would that ride be? Well, I definitely have my favorites at every park, each of which is covered under this title with parts 1-4.

When I only have limited time at EPCOT, I will always choose Soarin’ as my fast pass. This is a fantastic ride for Disney fans. Located inside The Land pavilion in Future World, Soarin’ is a feast for the senses. The ride simulates a peaceful hang-gliding flight over California.

The queue utilizes an infrared technology that allows us to participate in interactive games. Once we are through the line and are placed in our rows, we can view some of the scenes from California and receive a short demonstration on the screen of what we should do once we are allowed in to find our seats. Best Use of My Disney Fast Pass: Part 3, Hollywood Studios

When I only have limited time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I will always choose either Tower of Terror or Rock N Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith as my fast pass; depending on the wait in the standby lines. Both of these rides are awesome for thrill seekers.

If you have been reading the Affordable Mouse for a while, you know my all-time favorite ride is the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. If you didn’t know, let me familiarize you with this fantabulous ride here. Whenever the wait for TOT is shorter than the wait for Rock N Roller Coaster, though, I wait in the standby line for TOT and use my one fast pass for RNR. Read more

Best Use of My Disney Fast Pass: Part 2, Magic Kingdom Park

Author’s Note: This 4-part series answers the question: when you are trying to make the most of your limited time at the parks, and the crowds are maddening, there may be times when you will have to choose which favorite ride you will get a fast pass for that day.  What would that ride be? When I only have limited time at the Magic Kingdom, I will always choose either Splash Mountain or Big Thunder Mountain Railroad as my fast pass; depending on the wait in the standby lines. Both of these rides are a must-do for family fun at the park.

About Splash Mountain

As you can see from this picture, my family and I have a lot of fun on this ride. Always up for a tour through the briar patch we are ready to go. We do sometimes wait until right before leaving the park if it is 50 degrees outside, though, as we do tend to get at least a little wet. Please note that it is possible to get quite wet. Read more

Best Use of My Disney Fast Pass: Part 1- Animal Kingdom

When I only have limited time at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, I will always choose Expedition Everest as my fast pass. Expedition Everest is an awesome thrill ride experience.

Located in Asia, this ride is a soon-to-be favorite of yours if you enjoy a good thrill. The ride queue is part of the story of the expedition team on their way to track the Yeti. The line winds through a small Asian town and the town’s museum dedicated to the local legend of the Yeti. The “Forbidden Mountain” (as they call it) is home to the legendary Abominable Snowman, guardian of the Himalayas.
