Thrifty Thursday: Hold the Guac

What could be wrong with that?

I’ve written about this on my own blog, but it bears repeating: I love San Angel Inn. The food is good, the atmosphere is transporting and the drinks are heavenly. But there’s a hidden fee here that thrifty Mouseketeers may want to avoid. Read more

Thrifty Thursday: Picture Perfect with Disney

Editor’s Note: I am pleased to introduce you to Tina who is joining us on The Affordable Mouse! Tina will be sharing the Thrifty Thursday column with Melissa Sue and is looking forward to sharing her tips for saving time and money at Disney World. We are thrilled to welcome Tina to our family!  🙂

One of my favorite souvenirs from our trips to Disney is my photos!  There is nothing like having a great collection of pictures that remind us of how fun and special our trip was.

I always grab a Photo Pass from one of the many professional photographers stationed at the front of every park, and usually at key spots.  Here is a list of places you can find them. You just need one pass for the whole trip (if you have a big party than you may want to get two.) To be honest, I don’t think that Disney’s professional pictures are a superb deal…it’s a whopping $149.95 for your professional memories on CD.  You can order this online when you get home.  One good thing about these pricey photos is that photographers can do really cool things with them like put Tinker Bell in your little ones’ hands or Mickey balloons behind your family, fun stuff!  Only buy the CD if you think it’s worth it, some people say you can’t put a price on good memories!  You can save money by pre-ordering your Disney Photo Pass CD before your trip; it’s a better deal for $99.95. Dining at Walt Disney World: Upgrade at Pizza Planet!

I have decided to share something with you from my most recent trip to Disney World. One day we decided to use our counter service credit at Toy Story Pizza Planet at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. As you could imagine, the menu is made up of almost all pizza. Adults get a personalized sized pizza, a salad a drink and a choice of a cookie or Mickey Crisped Rice treat for dessert. Per the menu kids can get cheese pizza, grapes, applesauce and a choice of milk, or juice. Read more

Thrifty Thursday: Saving for Disney with a Night “Out” At Home

Saving for Disney means no fancy dinners, no $10 movie tickets and no big concerts. But all work and no play makes Melissa Sue stir crazy! How do you enjoy yourself while saving money for your next big trip? Cut costs by spending an evening at home!

Tofu quiche is cheap and delicious

Dinner …
I love delicious food. But I hate to cook. It’s a problem. Every time I pay a $50 dinner bill or tip the pizza delivery man, I can’t help but thinking, “I could have saved this money for Disney.” That’s an even bigger problem!

Over the past few months, my husband and I have started eating at home more often and experimenting with different cuts of meat. For example, a skirt steak is just as flavorful as a rib-eye, but it often costs half as much. Chicken thighs are a lot cheaper than chicken breasts … and even tastier. Beans are a great source of protein and can make for a hearty meal—and they cost a lot less than any cut of meat! Read more
