Building Your Own Lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened to Guests at the end of May and is just a over a week away from welcoming Guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. Last week we had the chance to visit Oga’s Cantina, a super-cool hangout at Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu (where Galaxy’s Edge is located). Today we are going to take a peek at a very special experience available to visitors of Black Spire Outpost – Savi’s Workshop where you can create your very own lightsaber!

When you visit Savi’s Workshop, a group known as the “Gatherers” ushers you into a covert workshop packed with unusual parts, whimsical pieces and miscellaneous memorabilia collected from the far reaches of the galaxy. Under their guidance, you can construct your very own lightsaber and bring it to life through the power of kyber crystals.

Savi’s Gatherers will help visitors choose one of 4 available hilt themes which include:

  • Peace and Justice
  • Power and Control
  • Elemental Nature
  • Protection and Defense

Once the theme is chosen, visitors will select the heart of their lightsaber—the kyber crystal, which is available in red, blue, green or violet. The hilt will then be assembled, with parts based on the selected theme and lastly, the Gatherers will connect the hilt to a 31″ lightsaber blade that will make any Jedi – or Jedi wannabe – ready for anything the galaxy puts in their path!

Builders beware though – you must protect the shop’s secrecy to avoid being discovered by the First Order!

There are some important details that you should know if creating your own lightsaber is on your Disney vacation list of “must-dos”:

  • The cost is $199.99 per lightsaber, plus tax
  • Payment will be due upon arrival at the location
  • One lightsaber per builder per experience
  • Age Recommendation: 5 years or older
  • The experience area is limited to the builder and one Guest—at least one person in the party must be age 14 or older.

Reservations are strongly recommended and I would say at the moment, due to the expected popularity of this new area, should be considered a requirement for the foreseeable future. You can make reservations for Savi’s Workshop, the Droid Depot (more on that next week), and Oga’s Cantina 180 days in advance.

May the Force be with you!
