Exploring Disney: Riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Magic Kingdom is home to four great mountains –  Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a “mountain” of sorts, along with the classics Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.  While I like them all, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will always hold a special place in my heart.  This was the first roller coaster I ever went on, way back in the day.  When you board your train car, they tell you to hold tight for the “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness”, and a wild ride is definitely what you get. Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Sping is a shooting gallery type game where you defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg. The ride vehicles, called Space Cruisers, have two laser beam blasters in them. 120 speakers worth of awesome blastin’ tunes at your head and a stretch limo that pulls major Gs under your feet, then over your head, then under your feet again…..it can only mean you’re taking a ride on ROCK ‘N’ ROLLER COASTER!!  If you’re a thrill-ride-lover, then you’re sure to think that it’s one of the most awesome rides anywhere in Walt Disney World.

Enter Hollywood Studios, pass all the boulevard-style shopping, and take a hard right on Sunset Boulevard.  You will see the awful, dreadful looming hotel with screaming folks plunging into a basement on an elevator gone wild (that thing makes my stomach turn), but turn left just before you get to the Tower of Terror monstrosity.  That is where you will find the enormous guitar and the exhilarating coaster ride that will make you get back in line to experience it again and again.

Exploring Disney: Waiting In Line Is Not The End of the World

If you spend any time reading about, talking about, or in Disney World, there is one thing you are absolutely guaranteed to hear — complaints about waiting in line. It’s kind of amazing, in its own way. I, for one, never cease to be amazed when I hear someone say they will never wait more than twenty minutes for a ride. That seems like a lot of missed rides and frustrated walking around the Parks to me. Sure. I’ll level with you. No one enjoys standing in the Florida sun for hours waiting for a ride. But there’s also no reason to automatically cross an experience off your list because the wait time is creeping up, especially if you have to go during a busier time of the year when the chances of low waits are next to nothing. Instead, learn to make the most of your wait and turn it into part of your Park experience! Read more
