Flower and Garden Fun for Everyone

The Walt Disney World Resort truly has something for everyone, regardless of age, background, or interests. Walt Disney World isn’t just for kids and families anymore. Whether you’re on Main Street in Magic Kingdom or in the Italy Pavilion at Epcot’s World Showcase, look around you will see young honeymooners, groups of adult friends celebrating milestone birthdays, couples celebrating their 50th anniversary, and everything in between. Walt Disney World has figured out how to wow them all.

One of my all-time favorite events at Disney World (whether I’m with or without my family) is the annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. This event typically runs from about early March to early June.*** During that time, Epcot is bursting with blooms at every turn. Anyone from the average observer to the professional florist will be in awe of all of the attention to detail across the park. This includes landscaping displays and character topiaries. Photo opportunities are endless.

In years past, there have been mini- events scheduled throughout the day for additional fun and learning opportunities such as tea tasting and bumblebee demonstrations. As if I haven’t already given you enough reason to book a trip during this festival, did I mention the food? Specialty food booths are placed all around the theme park with unique taste offerings. Rare and beloved characters such as Orange Bird can often be spotted as well! Aside from the all the other unique experiences only available during this time, Flower & Garden Festival fans enjoy the adorable limited-time-only merchandise.

I have talked a lot about what I love about the Flower & Garden festival, but this is also one of my kids’ favorite events to explore as well. A temporary playground has often been set up, with a different theme each time we’ve been, and the kids absolutely adore finding all the different character topiaries around the World Showcase. Finally, as much as we enjoy the festival itself, I have to throw in a general recommendation for visiting the Walt Disney World Resort in early May in order to take advantage of historically comfortable weather and crowds.

Have you visited Walt Disney World during the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival? What aspect of it did you like best?

*** This year, due to the COVID pandemic closures, the Flower and Garden Festival was cut short. When Epcot reopened in July, this festival was combined with the yearly fall Food and Wine Festival, into the Taste of Epcot Food and Wine Festival. Disney has not, at this time, released any details about plans for next year’s Flower and Garden Festival.

Candice was raised in east Tennessee. While in college, her best friend dragged her to a Walt Disney World College Program recruiting session at the University of Tennessee and the rest is Disney history. In the Fall of 1999, Candice became a quick service food hostess for Sunset Ranch Market and Fantasmic at Disney-MGM Studios – or what is now known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While soaking up her time as a cast member, she met Ryan, a neighbor and a fellow college programmer who worked as a custodial host at Epcot. Four years later, Candice moved to the Midwest and married that boy from across the hall. They now live in Greenwood, Indiana with their two little boys. The Disney-loving foursome took their first family trip to The Happiest Place on Earth in 2013 and Candice is eagerly planning their return. Candice also works full-time at a community mental health center and enjoys taking photographs and blogging at Mommy in the Midwest.
