Exploring Disney: Getting Silly with the Great Goofini

Last time we visited a Storybook Circus and took part in one of the most beloved acts — the flying elephant, Dumbo. Today, we are sticking around the circus to explore another of the acts. In this adventure we’ll join the Great Goofini on his death-defying demonstration of bravery and skill on Goofy’s Barnstormer.

This fun little roller coaster is designed for families, and even very little ones are welcome to hop aboard and be a part of the amazing feat of piloting. The outdoor queue for the Barnstormer isn’t very interesting. You wind your way through bushes and trees to the loading platform where you can climb aboard your own section of the bi-plane. This amazing contraption is complete with overhead wings and a propeller on the front.

The journey begins with a turn out of the loading station and a climb to the top of the hill for take-off. This is a fantastic vantage point to see the rest of the circus, and even some of the magical lands beyond. The flight takes off smoothly, but don’t be surprised if Goofy gets a little out of control after that. Brace yourself, there’s a billboard right in your path! Hopefully you’ll get around it — or you can just crash through the hole Goofy already made during an earlier flight.

With plenty of twists and turns, and a couple little hills, this is a wonderful coaster for a first-time rider, or even for a family that isn’t big on the major thrill rides. There usually isn’t a tremendous wait, so swing by if you happen to be in the area even if it wasn’t in your original plans. I personally love this ride. It’s a little touch of childhood, and a perfect way to ride something with Avalon.

Taryn was born and raised, and still lives in Richmond, Virginia. Neither she nor her husband ever had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World when they were children, but when their daughter Avalon came along, they decided she was not going to follow in their footsteps. They brought Avalon for the first time when she was 3 and have been hooked ever since. Now along with Taryn’s mother and equally Disney-loving older brother, they go “home” at least once a year, and by the time she is staring longingly at Cinderella Castle from the ferry on their last night, Taryn is well on her way to planning the next trip. As a group consisting of two adults with Asperger’s, including one who is also vegan, a very accommodating husband, an only child, a senior, and a service dog, they are a pretty special family, but Taryn is excited to show that the World really is The Most Magical Place on Earth and that there is a place there for everyone. When she isn’t thinking about her next Disney adventure and trying to come up with a Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party costume that will beat her Oozma Kappa nerd look, she is a professional blogger and novelist, but Taryn also likes to indulge her Disney passion on her Etsy shop It’s Better in Vinyl.
