As you may know, Disney has been busy over the past several years, creating a brand new “land” at both Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World and at the Disneyland Resort in California – Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which is the single biggest, most immersive, and technologically advanced area that Disney Imagineers have ever created. As construction is nearing completion at both parks, we have learned many new details about this amazing land and I wanted to share some of them with you today…..along with some BIG news about when we will be able to visit this galaxy far, far away!
So what can you expect at this new land ? The location you will visit when you arrive at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is Batuu, the home of Black Spire Outpost, which has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful — and notorious — characters. When you visit Black Spire Outpost, you will not just be visiting a new “land” at a Disney park, but will become immersed in a story beyond anything that Disney has done before!
There are two major attractions that will be part of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The first, entitled Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, puts guests behind the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy in one of three unique flight crew roles.
The second attraction is Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined that will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance and will blur the lines between fantasy and reality. As you can see from this video, which was shot in the actual attraction, both the stakes, and the excitement are running high in this epic Star Wars cliffhanger!
Beyond these incredible attractions, there’s so much more to do at this exotic outpost. For example, you can visit a street market in Black Spire Outpost, shop at food stalls where you can enjoy delicacies like blue milk, or visit the Cantina where you can see an old friend Rex, as well as encounter creatures and characters that are hallmarks of the Star Wars universe.
When it comes to food, there will be several locations in Black Spire Outpost to satisfy the appetites of most rogue adventurers. Two that are sure to be popular are:
Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo – Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs has traveled throughout the galaxy following his longtime gig as the chef at Maz Kanata’s castle on Takodana and brings exotic flavors and unusual dishes to his traveling diner “Tuggs’ Grub.”
Oga’s Cantina is the kind of establishment that attracts some of the most interesting and disreputable characters in the galaxy. And you never know when a stormtrooper or a familiar face will show up. Patrons of the cantina come from across the galaxy to sample the famous concoctions created with exotic ingredients using “otherworldly” methods, served in unique vessels. With choices for kids and libations for adults, the cantina will make for a great stop!
For those looking to purchase in-story Star Wars merchandise and rare finds from across the galaxy, you need to look no further than the many different Outpost stores and market stalls, among them:
Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers – Guests come to the workshop to meet with the Gatherers – a secretive group of people who have dedicated their lives to restoring balance in the galaxy by passing on their knowledge of Jedi lore and the Force. The workshop Master guides guests to customize and build their own unique lightsabers, and instructs them on the ways of the Jedi.
Droid Depot – Visitors to Mubo’s workshop can choose parts and construct their own individual astromech droids to accompany them on their journey, and then take them home with them.
And so, so, so, much more………
Now that we have an idea of what to expect, when can we go????
So glad you asked! 🙂
We learned just last week that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is opening on May 31 at Disneyland Resort in Southern California and August 29 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.
On opening day for phase one, you’ll be able to live your own Star Wars story and take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, sample amazing galactic food and beverages, explore an intriguing collection of merchant shops and more. And for phase two, opening later this year, will be the incredible Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. In light of tremendous demand, Disney made the decision to open the land in phases to allow guests to sooner enjoy the one-of-a-kind experiences that make Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so spectacular.
Anticipation for this never-before-seen land is unprecedented, and Disney expects “galactic excitement during the opening months this year” and into 2020 – and it’s easy to see why! Planning for visiting Walt Disney World is always important and will be even more so for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – and no one will be better able to guide you through everything you need to know to experience this out-of-this-world area than your friendly travel specialist!
When you’re ready to blast off to this galaxy far, far away, I’ll be ready to help. May the Force be With You!
