Disney with Kids: The Seas With Nemo and Friends

The Seas Pavilion at Epcot is one of the more impressive and less talked-about attractions at the Walt Disney World Resort. In my mom-brain, I typically envision us darting in to ride The Seas With Nemo & Friends before moving along to the next area of Epcot. Without fail, an hour later I’ve lost track of time and realize I need to start trying to lure my kids away from the massive aquariums and entertaining play area (where we have a tradition of taking the above photo inside Bruce’s mouth because after all, we are “friends, not food”).

There’s so much to “sea” inside the (air-conditioned!) pavilion aside from the two family friendly attractions, The Seas with Nemo and Friends and Turtle Talk with Crush. You can dine alongside ocean animals at the table service restaurant, Coral Reef (advance reservations are needed). You can book reservations for behind the scenes tours and experiences with the animals. The gift shop is always a hit with my kids, but what they love the most is touring the Sea Base aquariums as they look for a variety of their favorite underwater creatures. If you can plan to be in the building at the right time, you’ll enjoy watching the feedings at 10 am and 3:30 pm.

“Spot sea turtles, angelfish, dolphins, rays, sharks and more swimming through the 5.7-million-gallon Caribbean Coral Reef Aquarium, one of the largest man-made ocean environments on the planet. It’s home to over 4,000 sea creatures from over 60 species.

Ascend to the second floor’s Observation Deck—a circular, window-lined room in the middle of the aquarium—and find yourself almost completely surrounded by marine life!” (Source)

My kids love spotting sharks, observing seahorses, and admiring stingrays the most. Of course, we all enjoy looking for Nemo & all of his friends among the coral reef fish. Do you plan to spend time under the ocean with these beautiful creatures while visiting Epcot?

Candice was raised in east Tennessee. While in college, her best friend dragged her to a Walt Disney World College Program recruiting session at the University of Tennessee and the rest is Disney history.  In the Fall of 1999, Candice became a quick service food hostess for Sunset Ranch Market and Fantasmic at Disney-MGM Studios – or what is now known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  While soaking up her time as a cast member, she met Ryan, a neighbor and a fellow college programmer who worked as a custodial host at Epcot.  Four years later, Candice moved to the Midwest and married that boy from across the hall.  They now live in Greenwood, Indiana with their two little boys.  The Disney-loving foursome took their first family trip to The Happiest Place on Earth in 2013 and Candice is eagerly planning their return.  Candice also works full-time at a community mental health center and enjoys taking photographs and blogging at Mommy in the Midwest.
