Thrifty Thursday: Saving for Disney with a Night “Out” At Home

Saving for Disney means no fancy dinners, no $10 movie tickets and no big concerts. But all work and no play makes Melissa Sue stir crazy! How do you enjoy yourself while saving money for your next big trip? Cut costs by spending an evening at home!

Tofu quiche is cheap and delicious

Dinner …
I love delicious food. But I hate to cook. It’s a problem. Every time I pay a $50 dinner bill or tip the pizza delivery man, I can’t help but thinking, “I could have saved this money for Disney.” That’s an even bigger problem!

Over the past few months, my husband and I have started eating at home more often and experimenting with different cuts of meat. For example, a skirt steak is just as flavorful as a rib-eye, but it often costs half as much. Chicken thighs are a lot cheaper than chicken breasts … and even tastier. Beans are a great source of protein and can make for a hearty meal—and they cost a lot less than any cut of meat! Read more

Terrific Tuesdays: Surprises on the Great Movie Ride

It is hilarious to me how one can visit Walt Disney World every year and still be surprised by the goings on in the parks. Each time my family visits, we ride all of our favorite rides at each park; sometimes more than once. One of our favorites at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the Great Movie Ride. We are all movie buffs so we really enjoy cruising along in the tram viewing old movie scenes and animatronic figures from some of our favorites like Mary Poppins, Singin’ in the Rain, and the Wizard of Oz. And, even though we know that the gangster will hijack our vehicle, and we know just about every line of the script, we still enjoy it just the same.

Did you know, though, that there is another version of this ride? We didn’t. Read more

France

One of my favorite Counter Service locations in Walt Disney World Resort is the Boulangerie Patisserie located in World Showcase – France. Past the Bistro de Paris and the Chefs de France entrance is an absolutely awesome pastry shop with a variety of tarts, mousse, eclairs, quiche and croissants. There is also ham & cheese croissants, quiche and sandwiches available. As you pass through a stone entrance you’ll find one of the best counter services available with such a variety you’ll find yourself stopping by here often. Read more

Karen grew up in the Boston area and traveled to Disney World many times with her parents and sister. Always staying at the Fort Wilderness Cabins gave the trips a feeling of a home away from home. It also started the tradition of attending the Hoop Dee Doo Review on each trip! Somehow that show sparked her interest in the Disney College Program. Which she did in the fall of 2002, working as a hostess @ Captain Jacks in Downtown Disney. Now as an adult, Karen finds herself traveling to the parks on a yearly basis! Photography has always been a hobby of Karen’s, but over the past few years it has become her passion. It’s even taken her to her favorite place! The Make a Wish Foundation sent a family to Disney for a week and Karen was lucky enough to be their photographer of choice! She got to tag along and photograph their memories being made. She hopes to get that experience again someday! You can find more of Karen’s photography on her site www.KPportraits.com.
