Disney with Little Ones: Finding Nemo (and Dory) at Walt Disney World

13522949_10102198672649454_8660555227642462857_oIf your family is anything like mine, you rushed to the closest theater to see Finding Dory on opening weekend. We prefer to go to the 11am shows on Sunday morning to save a few bucks (shows before noon are only $6 at our local theater!) and to beat the crowds. The theater was pretty full, but not packed and not anywhere close to being sold out. Surprising, considering that this movie grossed an excess of $136 million – the highest opening for an animated film at the domestic box office (according to USA Today).

Regardless, this isn’t a movie review other than to say we LOVED it. My kids have been asking to watch Finding Nemo and digging out Nemo, Bruce, and Dory toys that they had all but forgotten about. There’s no doubt that the crowds will be a little thicker around the Nemo-themed attractions at Walt Disney World Resort following the huge success of this latest Disney summer smash.  Read more

Disney World with Special Needs: Following Your Own Shells

13522849_1018362718252530_8983601444587470103_oMy family recently saw “Finding Dory” and since we’re friends now I don’t mind admitting to you that I cried for a good portion of it. Without giving away any spoilers for those of you who haven’t seen it yet, it really hit close to home and spoke to me like I wasn’t expecting. There were parts of it that were like watching myself in fish form and it was tough. By the end, though, I felt that shimmer of super hero pride again and was finally able to help my little one understand me a little bit better. See Dory —- that’s like Mommy. Read more

Thrifty Thursday: Grazing Your Way Around Epcot’s World Showcase

IMG_0515When traveling to Walt Disney World we seem to go against what so many other people do: while I love all the different restaurants Disney has to offer, filling our days with ADR’s, Advance Dining Reservations for the novice, takes more time then we want to spend and doesn’t always fit into our budget. Fast food restaurants in World Showcase have so much more than the typical hamburger fare.  While these counter service locations do not have the fancy silverware, the linen napkins, or the attentive server; we find the more relaxed atmosphere suits us just fine.  We can choose where we eat and when, since most days, two meals is the norm. Wordless Wednesday: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

While all the news at Hollywood Studios is Star Wars or Toy Story related these days, don’t forget that there are some GREAT rides and attractions that are neither. A true classic, and one of the most popular rides is Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. Here you grab a limo on your way to a concert with the band…and hope you make it there in time!

Karen grew up in the Boston area and traveled to Disney World many times with her parents and sister. Always staying at the Fort Wilderness Cabins gave the trips a feeling of a home away from home. It also started the tradition of attending the Hoop Dee Doo Review on each trip! Somehow that show sparked her interest in the Disney College Program. Which she did in the fall of 2002, working as a hostess @ Captain Jacks in Downtown Disney. Now as an adult, Karen finds herself traveling to the parks on a yearly basis! Photography has always been a hobby of Karen’s, but over the past few years it has become her passion. It’s even taken her to her favorite place! The Make a Wish Foundation sent a family to Disney for a week and Karen was lucky enough to be their photographer of choice! She got to tag along and photograph their memories being made. She hopes to get that experience again someday!

Terrific Tuesdays: Finding Dory….and Nemo

13443098_10153768528581234_3299973430337741854_oI had the good fortune to see the new movie, Finding Dory on Saturday night at the IMAX Theater. I have to say, I absolutely loved it! But while watching it and experiencing all that 3D does for a movie, it brought me back to thinking about the Finding Nemo show in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Read more
