Thrifty Thursday: Romance on the Boardwalk

This is the week of Love!  February 14 can be daunting even for Disney lovers!  So keeping with the theme of Thrifty Thursday, let’s talk about love at Disney World, but wait, we aren’t even going into a Disney Park this week.  I know you are scratching your head at this but seriously, if you are in driving distance or happen to be at Disney for Valentine’s Day, you do not have to buy one of the Disney Romance packages to win your Valentine’s heart.

If you want to treat your valentine to a lovely lunch or dinner, then try Big River Grille at the Boardwalk Resort.  You can choose to eat inside but eating out on the boardwalk is so romantic whether you choose lunch or dinner. I consider Big River Grille more budget-minded than the Yachtsman Steakhouseover at Yacht Club Resort. Lunch menu is a bit less expensive but if you hang out there after dinner, you can see Epcot’s Illuminations fireworks over the water or you can take your love by the hand for a moonlight stroll down the Boardwalk and around the lake.  Another great spot to watch the Illuminations fireworks show is on the bridge facing Epcot.

As you are strolling down the Boardwalk, be sure to notice all the free entertainment after dark!  There are the traditional fair game booths, jugglers, unicyclists, and magicians for your pleasure, some are even free, but no park ticket required here.  Don’t miss Beaches and Cream soda shoppe for dessert after the fireworks!  If you are the thrifty lover, you can even split a No-Way Jose’ with your valentine!  No-Way Jose, a peanut butter, hot fudge chocolate and vanilla ice cream delight with a cherry on top, is one of our personal favorite ice cream treats when we are at Disney!  Now that you have eaten well, mesmerized with fireworks and live entertainment, continue your stroll around the lake over the bridge and back to the Boardwalk for dancing the rest of the night away at Atlantic Dance Hall, no cover charge,  or some dueling pianos at JellyRolls, which has a $10/person cover charge.

Have a Magically Thrifty Valentine’s Day!!!

Till next time, Leigh Anne

Great ideas Leigh Anne! I think people forget how much sometimes free and romantic things there is to do without stepping foot into the parks.
