Thrifty Thursday: Groceries 411

Garden Grocer is a grocery delivery service in Orlando. It’s a genius idea for a company if you ask me. You order your groceries online before you leave for your Disney trip, and schedule delivery for the day you get there or the next morning, depending on your time. They give you a two hour window and deliver right to your resort! One of the best parts? You don’t even have to be there yet! Your resort will accept delivery for you and will let you know your groceries have arrived:)

How will this save you money? Well, it can be pricey, so don’t get carried away with your order. Only buy what you know you will use! If you are staying in a Deluxe Villa it can be really convenient, but so can stopping at a grocery store on your way to the World unless you don’t have your own transportation, or are using Disney’s Magical Express. Sometimes it pays to pay for someone else to do the work, or for convenience but only sometimes!

We DO save money using Garden Grocer and here is how. We always choose the Disney Dining Plan when we visit Disney, the one with 1 snack, 1 counter, and 1 sit down meal per person, per night. Well…we use our snack in the morning for breakfast almost every day, so if one of us wants something in the park, or late at night, that is more money we have to fork over to not-so-magical prices! Ashley is a teenager and is forever hungry for Coke and Cool Ranch Doritos, and Dave is Type 1 diabetic so we always need something sweet around if he needs it. So we use Garden Grocer for those supplemental extras! We get bottled water, Doritos, a few sodas, and usually some bread and PB delivered to our room on our first day in WDW. This helps us keep some extra cash in our pockets for fun things like souvenirs. :)

There is a minimum order of $40 for food and drink, and a delivery charge of $14, so you will need to make sure this works for you. For us, it totally does. During an 8 day vacation we will each probably want at least 1 bottled water (more in summer) and in Disney that can cost up to $2.50 a bottle! That is just one example, but you can see how the prices will add up for things you know your family will need while on vacation.

We love using Garden Grocer to help make our vacation in Disney a little more comfortable. We can get those extra little things we need, without have to lug them to and from a car or on the plane, and we save a little money by doing so. If you want more information, go to their website or look over their FAQ section!

I love finding ways to add a little more magic into each Disney vacation, and believe me…not having to worry about buying extra water or trekking over to a vending machine when my feet are screaming is definitely magical:)
