Thrifty Thursday: Goal for 2014 ~ Saving for Disney!

Now that the glow of our most recent Disney trip as waned and the throes of Christmas have slowed, the New Year looms ahead!  Personally, I do not like New Year resolutions, because I never keep them!  I usually break them within the first two weeks.  Sooooo…. I set up New Year goals the week after Christmas to be effectively in place January 1.  Goals can be for anything you want to accomplish during the New Year.  It doesn’t matter what area of your life the goals focus.  Like dieting, you know you are going to fall off that diet and sneak that chocolate at least once during that long journey to your ideal weight.  When it happens, you eat that chocolate, you enjoy it and you move back on to the carrots and spinach salads again.  It works the same way when you have the Dream Disney trip planned.  Dream Disney can be a goal that you turn into reality with little or no guilt!

There is no doubt that anyway you cut it, Disney can be very expensive, especially with children involved!  Setting up an easy saving plan for Dream Disney Vacation is really easier and less painful than you might think!  When hubby and I married, I had a large white piggy bank where I deposited my change.  Hubby quickly adopted my habit of depositing change into Pig.  Change is never touched during the course of the year.  Before we leave for our pilgrimage to Disney, we cash in Pig’s holdings to use as our souvenir dollars!  We have never had less than $100 but usually have close to $150 just for souvenirs!

A new saving plan we have set up as a 2014 goal is a progressive deposit into a Mickey Mouse candy tin.  The year has 52 weeks in it.  The weeks of the year are numbered 1-52.  Each week, we will put in the amount of dollars for the week’s number.  I’ve devised a chart to show you how it works:
