One of my kids’ favorite rides at Walt Disney World is Kali River Rapids.  This attraction is located in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom.   It is a thrill ride and there is a height restriction of 38″.  This happens to be one of my favorite attractions in all of Disney as well, as it brings back so many memories of my childhood.  I live near Nashville and when Opryland was here, we had the ride Grizzly River Rampage.  It was just like Kali.

The queue for Kali is a long winding pathway adorned with interesting artifacts from Asia. They make for great conversation to pass the time as you are waiting in lines, which can be very long, especially in the hotter months.  It is a very popular attraction and so you may want to consider FastPass+, especially in those hotter months.

Twelve passengers board a round raft and set sail through a lush and beautiful jungle.  You will encounter several twists, turns and dips before you come upon a scene of debris left behind by illegal loggers.  This mess causes you to come close to raging flames, dips and slight drop offs and even a waterfall or two!  Finally, you escape the torrent of the loggers mess and arrive safely back at your starting point.

This is a super wet ride!  Be sure to protect your electronics, watches and other non-waterproof belongings.  There is a “waterproof” compartment in the center of the raft, but I can’t guarantee it as I have seen it full of water.  I recommend placing belongings in Ziploc bags and then putting it in the compartment.  There are many opportunities to get wet on this ride, but it does come at the luck of the draw.  The raft is free floating, so the ride is different with each trip.  I have come off of the ride dry as a bone and then turn right around and ride it again and get off soaking wet!  Zachary, 11, loves it because, ‘”It is fast, fun and wet!'”.

I would guess that 8 out of 10 people love the water rides.  My husband happens to be one of those 2 that don’t!  He chooses to stay on the observation bridge, holding our belongings and squirt unsuspecting boaters with water cannons as they pass through!

This attraction is definitely a must do, especially on the hot days of your trip.  I love it and the only thing I would change is to make it last longer!

Shannan is a mom that was born and raised in rural Tennessee. She tells us: “I live with my husband and 3 of our 5 children. Travis is 24 and is father to my grandbabies, Emma and baby Judson. I can’t wait to start sharing Disney with them. Dusty is 22, Clay 12, Zachary 10 and Erin is 8. I clean houses to make money to fund my magical trips. I went to Disney the first time as a teen and couldn’t wait to start introducing my own children to the magic. We took our 3 youngest in 2004 and that started it all. We have been 3 times since then and have our first Christmas trip planned for this December. Usually my parents accompany us on the trip and I have to research and plan for things that will suit various ages in our party of 7. Each time I go, I try new experiences in lodging and dining so I can share it with friends and family that seek my advice on trip planning! Disney is definitely my first choice in vacation destinations. Hopefully there is a Disney surf and turf vacation in our future!“
