Terrific Tuesdays: Is Walt Disney World for Kids or Adults?

14290012_10153979859421234_1520981588565075660_oI have heard more than a few people say………….. Walt Disney World is for kids! Why would you want to go without kids along?

Well, my response is “Walt Disney World is for adults who are kids at heart! We just bring the kids along once in awhile!” There are so many things at WDW that youngsters just don’t understand or get quite yet. Sure there are all kinds of rides, shows and characters that will boggle their young minds, but to truly “get-it”………they need more years and more visits under their belts!

I had the privilege to visit Walt Disney World with my son shortly after his 21st birthday several years back and then last year, when he took the big step and asked the girl of his dreams to marry him. Is Walt Disney World for kids or adults? I say adults, but kids definitely can enjoy it too! Going with my adult son showed me just how much young at heart we all really are. We enjoyed the so-called kid rides and shows, but then also got to experience the food tasting that is usually more for those with mature taste buds. And yes, sharing a wine or beer with my adult son for the first time, was an emotional time for me. I kept seeing that little boy becoming a young man!

This winter, we are taking 2 of our grandchildren, ages 4 and 12 and a great-grandchild, age 3. I cannot wait to see the looks in their eyes, when they see Mickey for the very first time! Will they notice the special names on the windows above main street, or how Disney disguises the heights of the buildings, or how each area of the park transports you into another world – no, they won’t! But I can watch them explore and hopefully some day they too will be able to share Walt Disney World with Granny and Papaw as adults, just as our kids did. Then they will finally get what Walt Disney World is all about!
