A Trip to the Disney Museum..In Indiana?

Can you believe summer is nearly over?  Where did it go?  One end of summer tradition we have is to go to the Indiana State Fair which it seems that I can somehow connect to Disney. (Last year it was finding the Dole Whip 🙂   ).  This is year was made super easy by one of the key note attractions- Get Animated.  This was a unique exhibit dedicated to the history and stories of animation and the artists; including Disney, Hanna-Barbera, Fox, etc.

The Walt Disney Family Museum brought several items for display.  Items varied from pictures of Walt on his personal train to drawings of the proposal for Disneyland.  The model of the Walt’s personal railroad was neat to see.  You could see how he had run the track around his house, garage, and all through his property.  There was an original ride car from Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride from Walt Disney World which we had to sit in since it closed before I made my first trip to WDW.

There were beautiful paintings from classic Disney movies- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Mary Poppins, Bambi; and a painting of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle with Mickey and Minnie.

There were classic Disney toys as well as newer toys- bobble head/vinylmation characters. Personally, I thought the new dolls looked a bit creepy.  My mother-in-law enjoyed seeing some of the vintage Disney lunch boxes, etc as a tribute to her childhood.

Seeing these items, definitely made me want to go visit the Walt Disney Family Museum, if we ever make the trip to California.  I’m so glad we got to share some Disney magic with my in-laws to get them ready for our upcoming trip.
