Thrifty Thursday: Eat This, Not That in the Magic Kingdom

Dining in Disney is a joy, but it can also quickly become one of the most expensive parts of your trip. But, with a couple of quick substitutions, you can save a bundle! Here are a few options for  cost-cutting in the Magic Kingdom.

Pasta with Meatballs

The Expensive Version
With choice of meatballs or Italian sausage, Tony’s Town Square Spaghetti will set you back $16.99 at lunch or dinner.

The Less-Expensive Version
The penne with meatballs at Pinocchio Village Haus only costs $8.49.

Potential Savings: $8.50

Thrifty Thursday: Hold the Guac

What could be wrong with that?

I’ve written about this on my own blog, but it bears repeating: I love San Angel Inn. The food is good, the atmosphere is transporting and the drinks are heavenly. But there’s a hidden fee here that thrifty Mouseketeers may want to avoid. Read more

Dining at Walt Disney World: Boulangerie Patisserie

France

One of my favorite Counter Service locations in Walt Disney World Resort is the Boulangerie Patisserie located in World Showcase – France. Past the Bistro de Paris and the Chefs de France entrance is an absolutely awesome pastry shop with a variety of tarts, mousse, eclairs, quiche and croissants. There is also ham & cheese croissants, quiche and sandwiches available. As you pass through a stone entrance you’ll find one of the best counter services available with such a variety you’ll find yourself stopping by here often. Read more

Running with Disney: A “New” Kind of Vacation

If I had to pick one word to describe our recent trip to Walt Disney World, it would be “new”. We stayed in a new resort, ate in new restaurants, and had new experiences. And this is probably one of the things I love about visiting Disney World: no matter how many times you go, there are numerous things that make the magic new and special.

We truly had a wonderful time and I am looking forward to sharing some of the details of our trip with you in the coming weeks! In the meantime, here are some of the highlights:

Disney Marathon Weekend

The main reason we chose this weekend to visit was because our daughter was participating in Marathon Weekend. Despite a change of plans a few months ago, she was able to run in the 5-K and what an amazing experience it was! In fact, the entire weekend was inspiring!

Kidani Village

One of the things I was most excited about was the chance to stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge-Kidani Village….and what an absolutely beautiful resort it was. I just couldn’t believe at times that we were at Walt Disney World!

New Restaurants

We had a number of new dining experiences on this trip and really enjoyed them! Among our favorites: La Hacienda de San Angel, and Via Napoli. Both were delicious and are highly recommended!

New Experiences

We have done several Disney tours in previous trips and we did another new one this time: Wild by Design at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This was a fascinating tour, providing tons of details about this park….and gave us all a new appreciation for Animal Kingdom.

New Construction

We also had the chance to get some glimpses of the Fantasyland construction, and I have to say it was exciting to see what is going on! I just can’t wait to see it all when completed!

In fact, seeing that construction makes me want to plan another trip to see the results….which would be the perfect cure for my Post-Disney Depression! 🙂

So stay tuned in coming weeks for details on some of the “new” things we did. And stay tuned as well, because I’ve got a little giveaway coming soon….because you know I never take a Disney vacation without bringing you home souvenirs!

Terrific Tuesday: Top Ten Most Fun Things at Disney World – Number 5: Biergarten

Germany Pavilion at Epcotphoto via http://www.flickr.com/photos/lorenjavier/5023345814/

Of course we all love food.  So, it wasn’t a surprise to me that we had at least one restaurant on my kids’ top 10 most fun things to do at Walt Disney World.  Number 5 is dining at the Biergarten, which is located in the Germany Pavilion.

I made our ADR several months ahead of time, and one of the main reasons I chose this restaurant was for my father.  He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War and I have often heard him talk about schnitzel and other famous foods of Germany and how he would love to go back.  I always try to pick at least one restaurant for each member of our party (usually 7 of us).
