While there’s a lot of fun to be had in the theme parks of Walt Disney World, for many folks, dining can provide just as much fun – especially for those who enjoy a meal in a beautiful and relaxing restaurant, far away from the hustle, bustle (and noise and crowds) in the parks.
Of course, character dining is always popular in any Disney destination, but what if you’re looking for something a bit different? Say, perhaps special and romantic? What if you’re visiting Walt Disney World with your love, and you want to splurge on a truly memorable meal, one that is unique, delicious (of course!), and with the perfect romantic atmosphere?
No worries. Disney has you covered. Here are 3 very special dining locations, each offering a truly memorable – and potentially romantic – dining experience.
Topolino’s Terrace – Located at the top of Disney’s lovely Riviera Resort, this dining location is very popular with families for a fun “artsy” character breakfast with Mickey and friends. The atmosphere is completely different in the evenings however, when Topolino’s Terrace becomes an elegant restaurant specializing in seafood and meat dishes, handmade pasta – and fabulous desserts – infused with French and Italian flavors. Everything I’ve had here has been delicious, beautifully prepared, and the service is wonderful as well. What makes this dining location truly special is the view from the terrace, especially at sunset. It’s worth making a reservation to coincide with the sunset, and then plan some special time with your love enjoying the view.
Citricos – Recently refurbished with a lovely “Mary Poppins” theme, this signature restaurant at the Grand Floridian is a memorable dining experience from beginning to end. The menu here features Florida cuisine with a Mediterranean influence, and from the silky corn chowder at the beginning to the artful desserts at the end, we enjoyed every bite of our meal. After dinner, guests should plan to enjoy a stroll around the lovely grounds of the Grand Floridian, and then watch and listen to the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach area. It’s truly a romantic way to end the evening!
Jiko – While most folks coming to Animal Kingdom Lodge for a meal will be dining at Boma, those looking for a unique, delicious meal should plan to visit Jiko, The Cooking Place. Here you’ll find a delicious blend of traditional African, Indian and Mediterranean cuisine in an intimate location that lends itself perfectly to quiet conversation and special occasions. The restaurant of course pays homage to the African theme of the resort, and that is certainly part of what makes it so unique. Bonus romantic experience is visiting the savannah before or after your meal to see the animals, or to sit by the firepit.
It goes without saying – but I’ll say it anyway – each of these restaurants absolutely need to be booked in advance, especially if you want to time your meal to sunset or fireworks. In addition, they are all “signature dining” experiences, so are priced accordingly. But if you’re looking for that “wow” meal, one to mark a special occasion (say a proposal, or anniversary), any of these will provide everything you’re looking for – and then some!
