Exploring Disney: Finding Adventure in the Swiss Family Tree House

One of my favorite oldies but goodie attractions is the Swiss Family Tree House. For those of us who remember the movie from 1960, Swiss Family Robinson, the Tree House will especially bring back a lot of memories about how innovative the family was when they were marooned on a deserted island. The movie follows the family as they survive a shipwreck and make a life on an island. This movie and the original from 1940 is currently on Disney Plus.

But back to the attraction located in Adventureland! This 6 story tree house is very unique in that the tree it resides in is all man-made. You must be able to walk up 116 steps to make it through the attraction, but don’t worry, you can take it at your own pace, stopping to enjoy the ingenuity of the Swiss family. They even have running water thanks to a wooden wheel at the base of the tree. The open-air rooms are amazing and the entire house was outfitted with 18-century items all salvaged from the wreckage of the ship.

Once you make your way all the way to the top, be sure and take in the view of all of Magic Kingdom, including Cinderella castle! It’s well worth the climb (and even for those of us that are not in the best of shape, it isn’t too difficult since you can stop and look around along the way) and you’re rewarded with a 360 degree look at Magic Kingdom at the top.

This attraction is for all ages and heights, but you must be able to walk up 116 steps, even if it takes you a little time.

Have you enjoyed the Swiss Family Tree House? What are your thoughts? Does it take you back in time?

Debbie and her husband live in Chattanooga, TN. They both are huge Disney fans and try to visit the most Magical Place on Earth at least once a year, if possible. They are enjoying taking each of their now 10 grandchildren and hope to also take their great granddaughter in the near future. One of their favorite trips has been visiting Disney with adults only, including one trip when their son proposed to his girlfriend. Each trip begins with the planning, which can take up to a year, beginning with how to get the grandkids excited about their upcoming trip. They have surprised some of them the day before they left, while the latest one had “presents” every 10 days starting at 90 days all leading up to an exciting trip with her parents along also. Their philosophy on Disney Trips? “Each trip is completely different, like visiting Walt Disney World for the first time.” They both enjoy all that Disney has to offer, but enjoy Animal Kingdom and EPCOT the most. It is their goal that everyone who visits Walt Disney World has a magical trip with lots of memories to last a life time.
