Planning a trip soon? There are some new travel rules this year that you’ll want to know about – because no one wants a nasty surprise when they are boarding their plane for that long- awaited trip!
Here’s a quick rundown:
- REAL ID Deadline (YES, it’s FINALLY Happening)
Starting May 7, 2025, you’ll need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license (or a passport) to fly domestically within the U.S. If your license isn’t up to date, now’s the time to get it taken care of! - EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES)
Expected to launch later this year, the EES is a new system for travelers entering European Union countries. It’ll record your entry, exit, and stay details electronically—no more passport stamps! This system will apply to non-EU travelers visiting the 29 participating European countries for short stays (excluding Cyprus). - European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS)
Starting in 2025, most visitors, including U.S. travelers, will need to apply for an ETIAS authorization online before arriving. It’s a quick process but required for trips to 30 European Countries, including popular destinations like France, Italy, and Spain. The document will cost €7 or roughly $8 for those between the ages of 18 and 70. Travelers can apply on the official ETIAS website or through the ETIAS mobile app and the authorization is valid for up to 3 years. - United Kingdom’s Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)
Heading to the UK? As of January 8, 2025, the UK’s ETA system is now in effect. Many travelers (including those from the US) must complete this quick online authorization before visiting. Think of it as a travel pre-check for the UK, and includes Northern Ireland as well.
Navigating these new rules might feel a little overwhelming, but that’s where I come in. Helping you know what you need—so your trip goes off without a hitch—is part of what I do!
