Have you ever noticed that there are multiple vintage mailboxes on Main Street at Disney’s Magic Kingdom? The United States Postal Service has loaned these antique mailboxes to the Walt Disney World Resort and they are real, working mailboxes that cast members empty each and every day. A fun fact – the beautiful cast iron mailboxes (like the one in the photo) were manufactured in Bridgeport, Connecticut in the early 1900s – that’s right around the time our beloved hero Walt Disney was born!
Kids from 0-99 will enjoy sending or receiving mail from the most magical place on Earth. Stop in at the Newsstand shop as you enter Magic Kingdom to purchase postcards and stamps. While you’re there, you can address and write your postcard message. Cast Members have a really cool stamp at the register with a retro vibe that says “Main Street – Magic Kingdom” that they will gladly use to “postmark” your card or envelope for a unique touch.
Once your mail is ready, make your way to either side of the Town Square on Main Street and locate one of these cool mailboxes and drop it in! Your recipient should receive their post within a week (within the US).
A fun idea for small kiddos: During a character greeting, have Mickey sign a postcard and then sneak off to the mailbox at some point during your family trip. Send a “thanks for visiting & I’ll see ya real soon” note from Mickey Mouse himself that your children will receive upon returning from vacation. There’s nothing worse than coming home from a vacation at the Walt Disney World Resort so this thoughtful gesture is sure to put a smile on any sad face!

Candice was raised in east Tennessee. While in college, her best friend dragged her to a Walt Disney World College Program recruiting session at the University of Tennessee and the rest is Disney history. In the Fall of 1999, Candice became a quick service food hostess for Sunset Ranch Market and Fantasmic at Disney-MGM Studios – or what is now known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While soaking up her time as a cast member, she met Ryan, a neighbor and a fellow college programmer who worked as a custodial host at Epcot. Four years later, Candice moved to the Midwest and married that boy from across the hall. They now live in Greenwood, Indiana with their two little boys. The Disney-loving foursome took their first family trip to The Happiest Place on Earth in 2013 and Candice is eagerly planning their return. Candice also works full-time at a community mental health center and enjoys taking photographs and blogging at Mommy in the Midwest.
