Rumor has it! Did you hear the news that Walt Disney World…….<fill in the blank>…..???
It was only a matter of time – with both the Disney and Universal theme parks in Florida and California closed, and Disney cruises (along with most other cruise lines) cancelling departures – before the internet rumor mill would get cranked up. In the early stages of the pandemic, there was actual news to report, with closings, delays, and cancellations happening every day it seemed. Now, after 6 weeks of “stay at home” orders for most of us, and especially as some states begin to figure out how “opening up” looks, the rumor mill is going like gangbusters.
Because let’s face it, when there isn’t any actual news to report – but bloggers still need to write about something in order to generate clicks to their websites to make money – the only thing that they can do is to speculate. And we all know that speculation spreads like wildfire on the internet.
So, no Disney has not announced that they aren’t re-opening until 2021. No there has been no official announcement that everyone entering the parks when they open will need to wear masks, get their temperature taken, submit to health screenings, or that Disney will not open all rides, or restaurants, or shows, or that you’ll need to jump through a flaming hoop in order to enter the parks………………………
NONE of this is true because Disney has not told us anything about re-opening plans.
And despite what you may read from people in various Facebook groups who supposedly “know”, or what you may hear from Ryan’s cousin’s friend’s mother-in-law who knows someone who works up “very high” in Disney……again, Disney has not told us anything about re-opening plans.
To reiterate – Disney has not told us anything about re-opening plans.
Here is what they HAVE told us:
- Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort are closed until further notice.
- Guests with resort hotel bookings through May 16, 2020 are receiving notifications that their stays will be impacted by the temporary closures
- Disney Cruise Line is suspending all new departures through June 18, 2020, Disney Magic Sailings through July 2, 2020 and Vancouver Sailings until the end of June.
- Adventures by Disney has suspended all new departures through the end of May, and most departures through June 30, 2020.
- Aulani Resort, Disney’s resort in Hilton Head, and Disney’s resort in Vero Beach are all closed until further notice.
But that’s it folks. That is what we KNOW. The rest is all speculation and clickbait from bloggers and writers who need to have something to write about. Nothing more. (And for what it’s worth, don’t get mad at them for doing this – after all, many bloggers are actually running small businesses as well, and doing their best to continue to produce income during this challenging time.)
So Buyer (or Reader) Beware. You can certainly click and read all the speculative and “what if” articles you want, but realize that you’re not reading actual news, just someone’s opinion – which isn’t really worth much beyond the act of getting you to click on the article.
If you want actual news though, it’s easy to find that……
Or you can ask me because here at The Affordable Mouse, I’m only going to share actual news that actually comes from Disney – and only Disney.
