Our next Disney vacation is still pretty far away, so I’ve got an important decision to make. We’ve taken our children on 2 Disney vacations so far and I’m really excited about our next trip. They’ll be 6 and 7 years old by then so it will be a much different experience than the ones when they were 2 & 3 and then 4 & 5. With the last 2 trips, I excitedly shared every detail of our planning with them as I could hardly contain my own excitement. Next time, I’m debating keeping it a secret. Since we haven’t booked our next trip or officially started planning, there’s still time to opt for keeping it a secret. To tell or not to tell? Read more

Disney with Little Ones: Why We Stay at Value Resorts
I was raised in a frugal home. Not because clipping coupons was trendy in the 1980s, but because we didn’t have extra money. We didn’t go on fancy vacations, but my parents did try to take us on an annual trip. The one time I went to Disney World as a child, it was partly due to my mother having won a 3 night stay at the Ramada Inn in St. Petersburg, less than two hours from Orlando. It was May of 1989, the month that MGM (now Disney’s Hollywood Studios) opened. We spent one day at Magic Kingdom and one day rushing through both EPCOT and MGM with tickets awarded to us after being tortured with sitting through a time share presentation. Regardless of how we got there, those two days left lasting memories of a magical family vacation that I have treasured my entire life. We didn’t stay on property, or even know what “on property” meant at that time. Read more
Disney with Little Ones: Fall Fun at Home
Now that it’s October, it feels like fall is really in full swing. With our most recent trip 5 months behind us, we are definitely all missing Walt Disney World. Our next trip will take place in the fall and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is going to be at the top of our to-do list. Since that’s not happening this year, we have to come up with creative ways to keep the magic alive while we’re over a thousand miles away from Mickey and all of his fun festivities. Read more
Disney with Little Ones: Fun Outside of the Parks
As I mentioned in a recent article, it is important for my family to build in some “rest” days during our Walt Disney World vacations. I use the term rest lightly because while some people may take that as an opportunity to snooze until brunch-time, that’s just not how my family rolls. Sleeping in is sleeping until 8 so we are up and at ’em pretty early most days, whether we are on vacation or not. Since my 2 little boys are bursting with energy first thing, we try to take advantage of the time to do something active. We had 2 full days to do whatever park-free activities we chose during our most recent trip. Our first day was a pool and laundry day followed by a leisurely evening spent at Downtown Disney. Disney with Little Ones: Give in to the Misting Fan
Way back when I was a cast member, I thought it a little indulgent and over-the-top to see every other child walking around with a ridiculously overpriced battery-operated misting fan. Each kid had to have their own and eventually, some unfortunate parent ended up carrying several of them. If the parent wasn’t carrying the bottles, kids were swinging them around, hitting people or merchandise. Unsuspecting guests inevitably got sprayed when they least expected it. It was one of those “when I’m a parent I’ll never…” things. Read more
