Disney’s Hollywood Studios Turns 30

Debuting on May 1, 1989, Disney-MGM Studios was the third theme park to open at Disney World. We now know this park that is dedicated to the movies, as Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and this year it is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary with some fun new attractions and shows. Here’s what we know so far:

Party with Pixar Pals –  An Incredible Celebration brings a Municiberg city block from Disney•Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” to life with a hometown celebration honoring the city’s super heroes – and the hero in all of us! Guests can get caught up in the excitement of “The Super Shindig” featuring Mr. Incredible, Mrs. Incredible and Frozone. They may even find themselves on TV, thanks to the local news crew. “The Super Shindig” is filled with music, dancing, interactive games, and tons of super fun! The entire area has a great, early-‘60s vibe about it, directly inspired by “The Incredibles.” As Guests explore, they will find fun photo ops, evidence of young Jack-Jack discovering his powers, and super tasty “num num” cookies. And they won’t want to miss The Edna Mode Experience, where after touring a gallery of the famous designer’s super suits, Guests will get to meet Edna Mode herself.

Inside the nearby Walt Disney Presents attraction, Guests can go on another Pixar adventure when they step through a door to the monster world to say hello to Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan on the Scare Floor of “Monsters, Inc.”

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy –  This high-octane show experience is one that’ll bring Guests face-to-face with the legendary Piston Cup champ. To kick things off, Lightning demonstrates what he’s learned over the years by using his brand-new, state-of-the-art racing simulator and its wraparound screen. Of course, as this seasoned racer has discovered throughout his career, things don’t always go according to plan, and he has to think fast to get back on course.

With Tow Mater, Cruz Ramirez and the gang from Radiator Springs rooting him on, Lightning gears up for the challenge. Will he emerge victorious? Speed on over to find out.

DJ’s Ready! Set! Party Time! – The fun and excitement of Disney•Pixar Cars extends beyond Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy into the courtyard outside Sunset Showcase. Here, DJ – the ultimate party car from Route 66 – gets everyone revved up with his incredible music mix. Bring the family along as he kicks it into high gear at “DJ’s Ready! Set! Party Time!” for Cars-inspired dances and games. Also joining the lineup is trainer-turned-racer Cruz Ramirez. You can find her just outside the Academy, ready for a photo-op with her fans.

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy and DJ’s Ready! Set! Party Time! is parked at Cars Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios – the home for Disney•Pixar Cars at Walt Disney World Resort.

Kids Jam Out at New Disney Junior Dance Party! – Little ones can’t sit still during the Disney Junior Dance Party! that recently debuted. Kid favorites like Vampirina, Doc McStuffins, Timon and even Mickey from popular Disney Junior TV shows rock out with Guests during this high-energy production that takes place several times throughout the day. Disney’s Hollywood Studios has so much going on during it’s 30th anniversary year, and this show is an ideal add for little ones.

Enjoy the New “Wonderful World of Animation” Nighttime Show – In addition to all of this,Disney recently unveiled news of an all-new cinematic nighttime experience, “Wonderful World of Animation,” which will debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in May 2019. The show will use state-of-the-art projection technology. to take guests on a magical journey through more than 90 years of Disney animation, all beginning with Mickey himself.

But Wait, There’s More – Just around the corner is the all-new Toy Story Land, where Guests can shrink down to the size of a toy in Andy’s backyard and encounter Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jessie; get caught up in a game of “Sarge Says” with the Green Army Patrol; or delight in the playfully percussive rhythms of the Green Army Drum Corps. And of course, we are just a few months away from the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which will take Guests to a galaxy far, far away and is the single biggest, most immersive, and technologically advanced area that Disney Imagineers have ever created.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is looking pretty awesome for 30 and is having a birthday bash this year that is truly incredible!

Exploring Disney: Getting the Most Out of Character Interactions

If you’re anything like me or my kids, you get a little starstruck after waiting for an hour in line and it’s finally your turn to have a 1:1 conversation with your favorite Disney character. I go into it knowing that the awkward photo will someday become a priceless memento so we smile and nod before striking a couple of different poses and moving along. Generally afterwards, I’m left thinking, “why did we wait in line all that time and then not even say anything?” The characters are probably asking themselves the same thing. Bo-ring! Read more
