What Do You Love Enough to Travel For?

There are some people who would happily spend an entire vacation exploring historic sites, castles and museums. And then there are the rest of us. 😉

But here’s something about bucket-list travel that you may not realize: You don’t have to consider yourself a “history buff” to build a trip around history.

Maybe you’re fascinated by castles and royal families. Maybe World War II history has always captured your attention. Maybe you love classical music – or The Beatles. Maybe you’ve always wanted to walk through the places where some of history’s biggest stories actually happened.

Those interests can become the foundation for an amazing trip.

Follow the stories you already love.

Imagine cruising the Danube or Rhine, where medieval castles, historic cities and centuries-old villages unfold along the river. You could explore Vienna, with its imperial history and deep connection to composers like Mozart, Beethoven and Strauss, or visit Salzburg, Mozart’s birthplace and a city where music and history seem to be around every corner.

France and Germany offer another fascinating combination, especially for travelers interested in World War II. From the D-Day beaches and Normandy to historic sites throughout Germany, these aren’t simply places you read about in a history book. Standing there can give those stories an entirely different meaning.

Or perhaps England is more your speed. London offers centuries of royal history, while a trip farther north can take you to Liverpool and the story of The Beatles. Add in places like Stonehenge and you’ve suddenly combined ancient history, royal history and even music history into one trip.

And it’s not just England that is perfect if you’re both a history AND music lover. There are more than a few places where those two interests overlap.

Vienna’s musical history is woven into its imperial past. Salzburg combines Mozart with centuries of European history. Liverpool’s musical story is inseparable from the city that shaped it. And across Europe, churches, concert halls, opera houses and historic cities provide a backdrop for some of the world’s most influential music.

So my thought for today – instead of asking, “What destination should I visit?” start by asking:

“What stories have always fascinated me?”

The answer might lead you to a destination you never would have considered otherwise!
