Terrific Tuesdays: The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion has always been one of my “Must-dos” when in Magic Kingdom. I am not a horror film or haunted house type of person, nor do I like to be scared so Haunted Mansion is definitely up my alley. I have heard more than one child or adult for that matter say, “but I don’t like scary things”. Unless they are really afraid of the dark, I highly recommend riding this. Even my granddaughter, who at age 4, kept saying, “I don’t like the dark”, still really enjoyed it, well, except for the darkness.

The new queue is great; you are given the option of walking through the new queue area or by-passing it and going directly into the room without doors. We were there on a slow day, so I really didn’t see much difference getting inside before the others. I had to try everything out in the new queue, from the musical instruments on the crypt to the books sticking out in the bookcase – you push one in and another comes out. This could keep antsy young ones (or young at heart) busy for quite some time. There is so much to see and read along the way, this would better on days with longer lines then on days with a few impatient people behind me in line. My son, laughing, kept telling me to move along. Ok, so I like to play as I go!

I always wonder how the cast members on this ride manage to keep such a somber look on their faces, with everyone laughing, smiling and cutting up around them. They definitely stay in character, which adds to the “scariness” of The Haunted Mansion.

Once inside, I didn’t notice a whole lot of change, but some things I hadn’t really noticed before, such as the bride with the beating heart and the “ghost” under the table in the ballroom scene. There is so much going on all around you; it is hard to take it all in with just one ride. LOL – nobody said you couldn’t ride more than once, that is what keeps Disney guest coming back time after time.

I won’t spoil the ending, but it made my son and I laugh so hard on the way out. They have changed it up from the hitchhiking ghost of past to something a little more surprising. The Disney technology always amazes me!

Be sure and check out The Haunted Mansion on your next trip…………there are 999 happy haunts, but there is always room for 1 more………….

I agree Scarlett. I would just be cracking up: “EveryBODY please go to the DEAD center of the room…..” 🙂 No way I could keep a straight face. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Thanks for stopping by Scarlett! When I was there this time, I noticed even their water bottles kept “in-theme” – they were all black! Something I hadn’t noticed before.

What gets me is not the somber faces on the Cast Members, but how exactly do these folks navigate in the dark, especially if the ride gets stuck on its track. I rode this ride for the first time a couple years ago, and I liked the fun of pushing in those books in the bookcase, along with reading the big tableau about the guy who offed his wives until he got killed by the last wife! King Henry VIII’s record w/his wives are nothing compared to this guy.
