One of the best reality experiences you can have at Walt Disney World is at The American Idol Experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Each hour there are three contestants who have been chosen to compete against each other to be the winner of the hour. After the hourly competitions for the day have finished, there is a finale show. The singers who have won throughout the day come together and compete. The finale winner of the day is given a Dream Ticket. This Dream Ticket entitles you to go directly to the front of the line at any American Idol audition around the nation.
To be a contestant you must be at least 14. First you go through an initial screening. If you pass that round you go to a second audition. After passing that round, you will be given the opportunity to sing onstage. The representatives who choose the contestants as well as the judges, all have a background in music and/or theater. They give you appropriate feedback to help you get further in the process. If you are thinking of auditioning you will have a better chance of participating onstage if you audition early in the day. Since there are only three contestants each performance the spots tend to fill up by mid-day. Majesty Rose, Ben Briley and Emily Piriz, three of the top 13 contestants from this past season, were all Dream Ticket winners at The American Idol Experience.
To help decide who moves on to the finale round as well as who wins the Dream ticket that day, you just need to be in the audience. Each show is 25 minutes. The finale show is 45 minutes because there are 5-7 singers competing. The American Idol Experience studio is quite similar to The American Idol studio in Los Angeles. When I went to see the Los Angeles show a couple years back, as an audience member I only noticed two differences. The size of the studio and the celebrity judges. The Los Angeles studio was much smaller than the studio at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The judges are not celebrities but do have a significant musical background.
Whether you are an aspiring singer or just want the opportunity to hear music performed by amateur artists stop by The American Idol Experience on your next trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There are fast passes available for this attraction. However, I would suggest not using a fast pass for this. I would personally just get there early instead.
Denise has loved Disney as far back as she can remember. She has two teenage girls who were raised with Disney. Their rooms were decorated, and their closets were filled with Disney articles. Denise’s house now has Disney on every wall. Her wardrobe is made up mostly of Disney clothes. She feels that being surrounded by Disney keeps the memories and magic alive! Her friends affectionately call her “the crazy Disney lady”. Denise was born and raised in Oregon. Currently she lives in both Oregon and Florida splitting her time between both parts of the country. She lives with her youngest daughter (15) and her roommate. Her daughter goes to high school In Oregon. Denise and her roommate sneak away to Florida several times a year, as often as possible. Her daughter tags along when she can, without missing too much school. Her oldest daughter (20) doesn’t make it to Florida much anymore, but hopes to again very soon. Denise’s first trip to Walt Disney World was for her birthday in 2009. She fell more in love with the magic of Disney that day! Ever since then, Denise and her kids have been annual passholders. Last spring she upgraded to a premier pass to include Disneyland. Over spring break her youngest daughter had the pleasure of her first visit to Disneyland. With Denise helping them plan, her brother and his family enjoyed their first family trip to Disneyland at that same time. Denise is looking forward to helping you with money saving tips as well as sharing the excitement and magic of Disney!
