I’ve written about this on my own blog, but it bears repeating: I love San Angel Inn. The food is good, the atmosphere is transporting and the drinks are heavenly. But there’s a hidden fee here that thrifty Mouseketeers may want to avoid.
When you take your seat overlooking El Rio del Tiempo, the waitress will offer you chips and salsa … and maybe you’d like some guacamole, too?? Of course you would!! Nothing goes better with chips and salsa than some nice, creamy, garlicy guacamole!
No one ever mentions that, while the chips and salsa are complimentary, that little bowl of guacamole is going to run you $6. Even with a belly full of margarita, that up-sell can be a little painful when you get the bill.
Next time you’re waitress offers you this devious bowl of heaven, make sure you know that your guacamole is going to cost you!

I agree. It’s not the best tasting guacamole anyways! Your better off ordering another margarita instead. 🙂
Thanks, Karen!! I’m with you!! What bothers me most is that they don’t warn you about the charge–it’s not even on the menu!

Wow, thanks for the heads up! I might enjoy a side of guacamole, but it’s nice to know what it’s going to cost you.
I had lunch there just yesterday, and I heard waitresses do it all around us. Every time, I wanted to stand up and say, “no! It’s not free!!”
