I know hitting the parks is the main goal when vacationing at Walt Disney World (WDW), but what about the days you aren’t going to the parks? Believe it or not, there are those of us who need a day away from the parks if the WDW vacation is longer than four days. For those days, a trip around the Disney resorts for family activities is fun-filled and FREE to not just resort guests but all Guests of Disney world! This week, I’m going to discuss the free activities at Disney Fort Wilderness Campground and Resort.
You can spend the whole day playing at the Disney Fort Wilderness Campground and Resort. There’s a free petting zoo and pony rides for around $5.00 /ride in the Settlement Trading Post area. Some other activities that have some cost involved include boat/kayak rentals and cane pole fishing (10:00 am – 2:00 pm).
Grab lunch or supper over The Trail’s End Restaurant, which is rumored to be one of the best values amongst WDW’s buffets. There’s a carryout window for pizzas and fried chicken meals. Eat. then head over to the campfire area for more free family fun!
The Chip-n-Dale Campfire Sing-a-long begins around 8:00 pm in the campfire area near the Meadow Trading during the spring and summer seasons. A Disney cast member leads the sing-a-long, featuring very familiar songs for about a half hour. While the singing is going on, Chip and Dale pop in to visit and sign autographs! The sing-a-long is not cancelled if rain threatens either, the cast member, Chip & Dale just move to the Meadow Trading Post Porch.
Also offered during the sing-a-long is the opportunity to make s’mores around the second campfire. You can bring your own marshmallows for the campfire s’more making or buy a s’mores kit (about $9.00) at the Chuckwagon Snack Bar. The snack bar also offers other fun snacks such as pizza, hot dogs, candy, sodas, and coffee.
Following the sing-a-long, Disney Fort Wilderness Campground and Resort presents an outdoor large screen movie at 8:40 pm. Each night the movie is different so no change or repeats if you are staying for a week or a month! You’ll be entertained with movies such as Ratatouille, A Bug’s Life, The Sword and the Stone, Tangled and more! Remember there are lots of Disney movies!
After the movie, don’t go back to your room yet! Stick around and watch The Electric Water Pageant from the Ft. Wilderness Marina!
Till next Time! ~ Leigh Anne
