My Favorite Disney Things: Josh’s List of Favorites

When we took our first family trip to Walt Disney World, my youngest child, Josh, was six. Next week, he will be graduating from high school and I have been spending every waking moment reminiscing about how wonderful these years have been. What a blessing it has been to raise him and just simply to have him in my life. He has grown up to be a sweet, caring, funny young man with a wonderful personality and he just happens to be a lot of fun to spend time with at Walt Disney World as well. Read more

My Favorite Disney Things: AFI Showcase Shop

You may not believe this, but I am not the stereotypical female. I don’t like talking on the phone, I will not stop to ask for directions until I have exhausted every single option, and I HATE to shop!

When I visit the parks, I am there to ride! I love to ride and I don’t want to waste my time shopping around the stores to find things I could find online or at Downtown Disney on a non-park day. There are only two exceptions to this rule, and both can be found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios: one is the Writer’s Stop, which is a coffee and book shop that sometimes has celebrity writer signings (this is also a fave of Nancy’s and Kelly’s); and the other is my favorite place of all, AFI Showcase Shop. I decided to start a new series this week called “My Favorite Disney Things”, where I, or one of our other wonderful writers, shares a special thing we just LOVE at Walt Disney World. It may be anything: an attraction, a souvenir, a snack or restaurant…there is so much to love at Disney World, so we figure this series could go on for years! And of course, we are The Affordable Mouse, so our emphasis is going to be on things that don’t cost much, if anything, so that should make it even more fun! 🙂

So today’s inaugural edition is featuring a true favorite of mine: The Magic of Disney Animation, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Read more

Best Use of My Disney Fast Pass: Part 4, EPCOT

Author’s Note: This 4-part series answers the question: when you are trying to make the most of your limited time at the parks, and the crowds are maddening, there may be times when you will have to choose which favorite ride you will get a fast pass for that day.  What would that ride be? Well, I definitely have my favorites at every park, each of which is covered under this title with parts 1-4.

When I only have limited time at EPCOT, I will always choose Soarin’ as my fast pass. This is a fantastic ride for Disney fans. Located inside The Land pavilion in Future World, Soarin’ is a feast for the senses. The ride simulates a peaceful hang-gliding flight over California.

The queue utilizes an infrared technology that allows us to participate in interactive games. Once we are through the line and are placed in our rows, we can view some of the scenes from California and receive a short demonstration on the screen of what we should do once we are allowed in to find our seats. Best Use of My Disney Fast Pass: Part 3, Hollywood Studios

When I only have limited time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I will always choose either Tower of Terror or Rock N Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith as my fast pass; depending on the wait in the standby lines. Both of these rides are awesome for thrill seekers.

If you have been reading the Affordable Mouse for a while, you know my all-time favorite ride is the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. If you didn’t know, let me familiarize you with this fantabulous ride here. Whenever the wait for TOT is shorter than the wait for Rock N Roller Coaster, though, I wait in the standby line for TOT and use my one fast pass for RNR. Read more
