Thrifty Thursday: What’s the Deal with Disney Pin Collecting?

One of the biggest budget-busters when it comes to Disney vacations are souvenirs….because there are just so darn many cute choices! And a lot of things that you (or your kids) will want are not cheap either, which means that giving in to “gottabuyit” means that you’re probably also giving in to spending more than you intended….and possibly lots more than you intended. Thrifty Thursday: Disney World Pressed Coins

With airlines charging for luggage, inexpensive souvenirs can become expensive. For example, if they are heavy they can make your suitcase over weight. Or if they are too big to fit, you have to buy another piece of luggage. That being said, I suggest one of my favorite souvenirs, pressed coins. Read more

Disney Penny Pinching Fun

One of the biggest challenges in keeping costs down on your Disney vacation is that souvenir budget. It often seems like all the planning that you do on every aspect of your trip can get totally blown when faced with a totally adorable….and totally overpriced….Disney souvenir. Which is why it can be really helpful to know in advance, some great ideas for some really fun and awesome souvenirs. Today’s article is about one of my favorite affordable Disney souvenirs, something that costs just over 50 cents, offers a good deal of fun involved in getting it, and can provide a great commemoration of your Disney trip……pressed pennies.

With pressed penny machines located all over the parks and resorts, there are enough design options to satisfy the “collector” in anyone. Kids especially enjoy the process of squishing pennies and parents truly appreciate the ability to encourage their children in collecting a souvenir that won’t break the bank (sorry but I couldn’t resist that pun 🙂  ) Read more

Thrifty Thursday: Picture Perfect with Disney

Editor’s Note: I am pleased to introduce you to Tina who is joining us on The Affordable Mouse! Tina will be sharing the Thrifty Thursday column with Melissa Sue and is looking forward to sharing her tips for saving time and money at Disney World. We are thrilled to welcome Tina to our family!  🙂

One of my favorite souvenirs from our trips to Disney is my photos!  There is nothing like having a great collection of pictures that remind us of how fun and special our trip was.

I always grab a Photo Pass from one of the many professional photographers stationed at the front of every park, and usually at key spots.  Here is a list of places you can find them. You just need one pass for the whole trip (if you have a big party than you may want to get two.) To be honest, I don’t think that Disney’s professional pictures are a superb deal…it’s a whopping $149.95 for your professional memories on CD.  You can order this online when you get home.  One good thing about these pricey photos is that photographers can do really cool things with them like put Tinker Bell in your little ones’ hands or Mickey balloons behind your family, fun stuff!  Only buy the CD if you think it’s worth it, some people say you can’t put a price on good memories!  You can save money by pre-ordering your Disney Photo Pass CD before your trip; it’s a better deal for $99.95. Stop by Chip and Co. to Chat About Pin Collecting

I haven’t made it a secret that we love pin collecting. This week over at Chip and Co., I decided to chat a bit more about how we have found this to be a great way to find some awesome souvenirs and keep that souvenir budget under control as well:

There are a number of things to keep track of when it comes to spending on your Disney vacation: accommodations, travel, food and park tickets are the 4 biggies and the ones that have the most written about them. But souvenirs often become the biggest budget buster, as many of us don’t really “plan” what we are going to buy until we get there….and then emotions take over, which is a sure sign of spending more than you want to! We’ve all been there, and it’s pretty frustrating, after having budgeted oh-so-carefully before your trip, to return home with a pair of Mickey crocs that you spent too much on and, really are you going to ever wear again?

However, when we discovered pin collecting, we discovered a great way of keeping that souvenir budget under control. Because pins are now our souvenir of choice, we are better able to plan our souvenir purchases and stick to a planned budget. We don’t get sidetracked, and don’t suffer “buyer’s remorse” when we get home either.

You can read the rest of the post here: 5 Tips for Affordable Disney Pin Collecting Looking forward to seeing you over there! 🙂
