Be Aware of Hurricane Season – The Caribbean is prone to hurricanes, which can cause significant damage and significantly disrupt travel plans. Hurricane season runs from June to November, with the peak of the season occurring in September and October – which ironically (or perhaps not) coincides with some of the lowest pricing for many Caribbean resorts. Some islands are more prone to hurricanes than others though, so it’s important to know, before you book your trip, how any potential hurricanes could impact your travel plans. Your travel agent will be an important resource here.
Don’t Wear Camouflage – This is not widely known, but in a number of Caribbean countries, it is illegal for civilians to wear camouflage clothing. This is because camouflage is often associated with military personnel and wearing it as a civilian can be seen as an attempt to impersonate a soldier. This law is strictly enforced in some places, and violators can face fines or even jail time. So, when you’re packing for your trip to the Caribbean, be sure to leave your camouflage at home!
There’s More Than Beaches – Yes, you’re probably going because you want to enjoy the beautiful beaches, but the Caribbean has much more to offer than just beautiful beaches. From exploring the amazing local cuisine, to hiking through lush rainforests or to the top of mountains, from exploring historic and cultural attractions, to touring a rum distillery – there are many exciting activities to try. Plan to enjoy some of them!
