When planning a trip to Walt Disney World, there are things that you should pick up and pack prior to arriving at the most magical place in the world. Not only will it help with expenses, but it also is half the fun in preparing for your trip. Here are just a few things to think about.
The all important “Disney-bag”: This was easy to do. The Disney store online has several types of bags that could be used for groceries or treats. Or you could find them locally at Publix, etc. I leave it sitting in the spare room and as I pick up things – in they go.
First-Aid Kit: I found “Mickey” band-aids at a local store, so this part was easy. Into a over-sized pencil box, I put antibiotic cream, Mickey band-aids, small container of witch hazel (for blisters), small container of headache and sinus medicine, eye-drops and aloe (for sunburns). Many folks use things like moleskin to prevent blisters. Don’t forget sunscreen too! I suggest gathering stuff you want first, then finding a case to hold everything.
Travel or Disposable mugs with lids: We often take a single-cup coffee maker with us, so rather than using a plastic mug that would have to be carried all day, we have found that a pack of (5) to-go cups with lids at the $1 store can be disposed of on the way to the bus. Going to the food court is great, but some of us need that cup of java 1st thing in the morning.
Single-cup servings for the coffee maker: I pick up some coffee, hot chocolate, tea and also some individual servings of oatmeal and grits. Picking up some instant soup would also help for late night cravings. Don’t forget creamer and sugar if you use it. Be sure and use small containers. No sense in taking more than you need.
Ponchos: These can be found 2/$1 at the $1 store or in the camping department of your local department store. Take several, since rain always seems to happen in Florida, but also for those water rides if you don’t want to get soaked. Because of the price – I consider these disposable also!
Snacks: This list could go on and on! We are usually good with some nuts, granola bars, fruit bars, fruit snacks and gold fish. Just think small and convenient for packing each day in your park-bag. I don’t suggest chocolate or anything crush-able. Snack-size baggies work well for dividing things up to single servings.
Drinks: When in the parks, a cup of water is available at most counters for the asking. If you feel you may need water more often – think about packing small water bottles that can be refilled at the water fountains. If Florida water is not to your liking, throw in some individual flavor packets. Make sure the bottles are plastic – nothing glass is allowed in the parks. Also, no alcohol is allowed in your day bag when entering the parks.
These are just a few things we take on every trip to Walt Disney World. If you drive, they are easy to bring with you. But even if you fly, consider packing everything up and sending to your resort in advance. Buying them at home is much cheaper than buying them at Disney!
