I have lived in Indiana for more than 10 years. Therefore, the month of May is something of a local holiday culminating with the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” aka the Indianapolis 500, on the last Sunday of May. The first time I went to the race, I went with my college roommate thinking, “It’s a once in a lifetime experience.”
Now my husband has got me hooked into Indy car racing and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, so much so that we are at the track every weekends in May and attend the race yearly. No, we are not one of the crazy people packed like sardines on toasty aluminum bleachers. Instead, we are in the sea of people camped out in the grass hills 20 feet from the track where the past few years we compare it to sitting on the surface of the sun (think at least 20° warmer than the air temperature).
So now the question is- How does Mickey go to the Indy 500?
Well, there is the possibility of wearing a Disney inspired shirt- something linen, light weight, and breathable to help keep you cool on those hot May days.
Or the Disney hat- to make sure that everyone notices you. However, the hats get very hot and sweaty on those May days, so I’ve been told by my friend Dave. Yes, that’s him in these pictures.
Then there is the subtle…
the black and white Mickey ear bracelet, Mickey and Minnie watch, and Disney crocs. I picked this particular piece out on one of our March WDW trips. The black and white colors are the universal sign of race fans, at least in Indy. And the bracelet makes a good conversation piece while you waiting for the race to start. I’ve also noticed that Cinderella’s Coach looks close enough to a racecar that I’ve been wearing my jewelery to the track this month. This way I could still take Disney spirit with me while I cheer on the racers with 300,000 of my closest friends.
Hopefully, I’ve shown that your love of Disney and Mickey can cross into other aspects of your life. Wear those Mickey crocs with pride and share the magic (I know I do)! Have a magical day!!
PS- Thanks to Kenny and Dave for helping with the pictures!
