Disney’s Castaway Cay is a gorgeous island in the Bahamas that is owned by Disney, and exclusive for Disney Cruise Line guests! Bahamian and Caribbean cruise itineraries visit this island, and it’s definitely one of the highlights of cruising with Disney Cruise Line.
First of all, there are tons of great activities for all ages on Castaway Cay. One of the first places you’ll see on the island are the family beaches, with plenty of space along the beach and calm waters for families to play. Here you’ll also find Pelican Plunge, a slightly off-shore water slide and water play area that kids love.
If your kids prefer to hang out with friends they’ve made in the kids’ club, there’s also kids’ club programming available at Scuttle’s Cove. Just past the family beaches, there’s also the teen-exclusive Hideout. At the far end of the island is also Serenity Bay, the adults-only beach, with its own bar and dining area. Whether you’re looking for lots of family activity or a quiet place to relax, you can find it here.
If you want to be active and have plenty to do during your day at Castaway Cay, there are several excursions and activities available for an extra fee. Guests can rent snorkeling equipment to explore Castaway’s Cay’s snorkeling lagoon, or rent bikes and take the bike trail around the island. Guests can also book other activities such as parasailing, piloting a waverunner, and fishing. One of our favorites is Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure, where you get to feed stingrays.
Of course, one of our favorite things about sailing Disney Cruise Line in general is opportunities to meet lots of characters, and Castaway Cay is no exception. Mickey and friends are around the island throughout the day in their beach wear, and you can often spot Captain Jack Sparrow on the island as well.
Disney’s Castaway Cay is, of course, a Disney Cruise Line exclusive – so, there’s no competition with other cruise lines or with local visitors for spots on the beach. Also, Disney puts their own touches on the island – be sure to notice the details, such as popular picture spot Mount Rustmore.
Since most of the island is operated by Disney Cruise Line, lunch is included as well! You can find a barbecue lunch served at two locations near the family beaches, and at the dining area in Serenity Bay. Alcoholic drinks and merchandise cost extra, but you can use your stateroom key to charge them to your onboard account.
