Affordable Disney: Theme Park Tickets 411

Deciding on your park passes can be somewhat overwhelming, as there are several options to choose from. Which one is right for you? The first step in deciding is to think about what you would like to do while at Walt Disney World. Once you have an idea of that, you can then figure out how many days you will be going to the parks.

As you decide on the number of days, keep in mind that the more days you visit, the cheaper the cost is per day for your passes; once you get past 4 day tickets, the cost/day/person is usually less than $20. Another thing to think about is that your tickets must be used within 14 days from the date of first use. In other words, if you will be at Disney for 7 days, but only want to visit the parks for 5 days, you can take one or two “free” days anytime during your stay to visit other places.

From there you will want to answer these few questions:

  • Do I want to be in the same park all day?
  • Or would I like to visit several parks each day?
  • Are there other things I would like do besides the parks?
  • How many days in the next year will I be able to visit?

The most basic ticket available is a one-park per day ticket. This ticket will allow you to visit any one park per day. You will still be able to come and go all day, letting you re-enter that park as many times as you want. This would allow you to maybe go back to the hotel during the heat of the day, or maybe visit Disney Springs for a little shopping or a meal. This ticket is also the least expensive ticket available overall (but the most expensive/day). If you are planning on only 1 day, 1 park visit, be sure to check disneyworld.com for details since the price will vary depending on the time of year and park you are visiting.

The next option is the Park-Hopper ticket. This option will let you visit one park in the morning and then catch another park in the evening. There is no limit on the number of parks per day you can visit with this option, so in theory (if you’re up to it) you could actually visit all 4 major parks in one day. Keep in mind that, in most cases, transportation does run park to park – with the exception of the monorail between Magic Kingdom and Epcot and the boats between Epcot and Hollywood Studios. This means that you will need to go from park to hotel to park, or take private transportation (car/taxi/uber/Minnie Van) to get from park to park. Park Hoppers add flexibility with your park days and are especially helpful during busy seasons or if you want to catch a sit-down meal at another park.
